View Full Version : Your Hair During CV19

Crosby Stills Nash & Young once proclaimed in the song Almost Cut My Hair... "I feel like letting my freak flag fly."

Well I haven't had a haircut in a while because of covid and my freak flag is starting to fly. It's getting pretty long. Fortunately at a couple of years past 50 I still have a full head of hair and not a lot of gray, Some around the temples and if you look close you can see a speckle here or there. It's only a matter of time though. But for now it's mostly brown...at least the hair on my head that is 😉.
Anyway what's your hair like during this crisis of no barber shops or hairdressers? Will you cut your own at some point? I heard there was a shortage of hair coloring in the stores The only haircut I know is a buzz cut. But I will do it if I have to. The bride says she won't allow it. Is your hair turning gray because of covid-19... Are your roots starting to show? What is your hair dilemma?

My girlfriend did mine, number one faded at the sides and trimmed at the top. Genuinely better job than a guy I’ve been paying for as long as I can remember.

Not that I’d admit that to her, obviously.

I've cut my son's hair. It's curly and had endured an 8 week spell in hospital (It needed a trim when he was admitted suddenly). I haven't done a bad job at all and will keep it "tamed" as the weeks progress..

I've cut my own fringe and will give it another hack as needed..Fortunately I'm not bothered about getting it perfect...

As for my daughter's hair..I wouldn't dare to suggest cutting it myself..:D It took months to find her the "perfect" hairdresser!

You're a brave man my friend.

I had the consolation of being able to buzz it off if she made a pigs ear of it but fortunately she was really good.

I was slightly suspicious about her asking if I wanted an open razor shave, though.

I needed a haircut before this all happened, but I was so busy I hadn't gotten around to it. Now my hair is approaching my butt :S Maybe when this is all over I will cut it off and donate it.

I do my own these days. Number 3 and a bit of tapering up. I've been either too busy with stuff at home or too lazy to do it though!

But I'm lucky anyway since my dad was a barber in his younger days so he will always do it too. He always cut everyone's hair when we were younger. In his day they used to attend the shows and seminars doing their work and he learned under John English who was well-known locally and in the trade.

I work in a school and we currently have no children, but we have heard from the parents that they are really missing the staff (we are really missing them too :( ) so we are making the children a video throwing toilet rolls to each other :roflmao:

I've been growing dreadlocks for around 12 months now so I don't need to worry about my hair. I am concerned about not being able to order my shampoo's from the USA. I only use organic locking shampoos. Here's a pick I took for my bro a few days back. Lots of dreadlocks, but still a way to go. Also, facial recognition doesn't work well on folk with dreadlocks so there's that too.

Thing about women's hair is even if you mess it up cutting it yourself you can just tell people you went to the chicest hairdresser in town and everyone will say it looks great and they'll start doing the same thing.😁

Thank you for your question, Agt Noi.

I can confirm that the Complaints Database found 3 solutions to your query:

1. Let it grow. I have my hair in ponytail now and don't need to bother with motormouth barbers any more. Only problem is I can sometimes be mistaken for a girl from behind and this can lead to undesirable consequences involving me telling guys to F-off.

2. Use a bowl. You know the drill: just cut round the edges and you're good to go!

3. Use a lawnmower. Not only will this remove your hair, but your head too, which solves the pesky problem of it growing back.

I hope that helps during lockdown :shades:

The chairty I donate to ask that you don't have any fresh dye/bleach in it. Also wash it and don't out any styling products in it before cutting it. Plus it has to be at least 12”/30cm :)!

This is a fun thread. I’ve kept my hair in a short pixie ever since finishing chemo seven years ago. It grew back thicker and wavy with a bit of curl, which is nice, but chemo basically put me into perimenopause so I get hot easily, have hot flashes, etc. So I’m used to having my hair cut every 5-6 weeks. When the lockdown started I thought I could wait until it was over since I had my hair cut a couple of weeks before it started. Well, I was wrong and caved and actually talked my husband into cutting it, and he actually did a good job! With it being a bit curly/wavy it doesn’t seem to show imperfections as much. He let me give him a buzz cut too. We aren’t too picky about our hair anyway. He’s balding, and I’ve been bald, so we both know it isn’t your hair that makes you who you are. It’s what’s inside that matters the most. Although I will go back to my usual stylist and he to his barber when this is over, we actually had fun giving each other haircuts.

I used to know a bloke who grew a beard so fast he would look like that after a few weeks! He was only early twenties and if he didn't shave for a few days he started to loom like he was wearing a motorbike helmet. And he was ginger which just made it stand out even more. We used to call him Chewbacca.

I'd decided to stop colouring my hair back in January so it was just getting to the awkward grey root stage when lockdown began. I've only been washing my hair once a week while I've been at home and not using my hairdryer or flat iron. As a result it's looking and feeling much healthier. I will splurge on a salon treatment and new style once it's safe to go to the hairdresser again.

I don't think gray hair on a woman detracts from her looks a whit. In fact I think it looks great on a lot of women. It's probably more about like you said looking healthy and how it's kept.

I have cut my own fringe, but this is nothing new for me. My hairdresser is always reluctant to take much off it as she says I will end up looking like a five-year old if it is too short (LOL), but within 3-4 weeks of her cutting it, I begin to resemble an Old English Sheepdog, so I trim it myself.

I have been isolating for 5 weeks now with my parents (they are vulnerable and as I live with them, I too am isolating) and my hair has already reached my shoulders from it previously being a short layered hairdo.

If this lockdown keeps going for any extended period of time, I will resemble 'Cousin Itt' from 'The Addams Family'......

My Dad has asked me to give him a trim when he feels he needs it. Oh dear, Dad. Be afraid.......be very afraid. It takes a brave man.......
