Hi all,
My health anxiety has been going overboard the last day or 2. In my bedroom there is a square bay window. The ceiling of the bedroom and the bay is artexed. There are a couple of areas in the bay which have blown and the paint and art has cracked and in a couple of places started to peel. As there is no way of getting it fixed by a tradesperson at the moment I have stuck a lot of thick electrical tap over the cracks to seal them. My concern is that when I did that there was a small amount of dust. I don't have any dust masks and at the moment it's almost impossible to get any. I'm really concerned abut asbestos being resent in the artex.

I realise it's unlikely however because the artexing was done in 1995. All the ceilings in my house were artexed at the same time. From what I have read it's unlikely for there to be any asbestos in artexing from that period.

I did have samples taken and tested for asbestos from 2 ceilings including the bedroom 8 years ago when I was about to have most of the ceilings skimmed.
The results said they couldn't find any asbestos in the samples.

I'm still worried though as I keep thinking what if the guy doing the artexing used different stuff in the bay from the rest of the room. I know that's unlikely as surely he would have just mixed up a big batch of the stuff and got on with it.
I also worry that the tests may not have picked it up although they were done by a very reputable company who specialise in testing for asbestos.
Also, from what I understand you have to be subjected to asbestos for years on a day to day basis to be most likely of getting related diseases from it which is why historically it has been mainly tradespeople who have got asbestosis.

I think because of coronavirus I'm just a lot more anxious at the moment and my rational brain just isn't working.

Thanks for reading this.

You're worrying about literally nothing. Even if it was full of asbestos you'd have to go up and bang the hole and suck in the dust for years or decades for it to cause a problem.

There is absolutely zero chance of this being a problem.
