As many of you know I have been suffering with gallstones and have been undergoing treatment for the last 6ish months.

I have now been given a date for the operation - 17th Feb.

I will have to attend a "pre-op" just to make sure I am fit and healthy.
But my main problem is that I am scared of the actual stay.

My consultant was very nice and explained that I will have to attend on the 16th, my operation will be on the 17th, and if all goes well I should be well enough to go home the following day.

I've packed a colouring book, Gameboy, puzzle book and reading book.
I'm also told that cartoon network will be available on tv [^]
Will that be enough distraction for me do you think?

I am going to make sure the nurses know exactly what to expect, so should I start freaking out they know I am not being difficult, I am just a panicker.

Any ideas on what I can do if things go a bit pear shaped and I start to panic ?

Hi Liz

Firstly, good luck for the 17th, you will be fine I'm sure.
It will probably be better if you tell the nurses that you suffer with anxiety and panic and they will be able to reassure you.
I used to be a theatre scrub nurse and the procedure you are having done is quite straight forward and you will suffer much less discomfort, but I'm sure the doc has told you this.
You probably won't need much distraction as the time will fly,

Take care

hi Liz,

Good luck on the 17th!! I'm sure you will be fine. The nurses will have dealt with 'panickers' many times before and will do their best to make you feel comfortable. It sounds like you are very much prepared so I'm sure that all will go well. Keep positive!!

Thanks everyone :D

Not long to go now.

I won't miss the indigestion, back ache and being sick that is for sure.

On the plus side though I've gone from being a size 16 to a size 10.[^]

Liz

Good luck to you and I just know that you will be fine once you are there.

You sound as though you have everything you need and I am sure Steve will take good care of you whilst you are there.

I don't think I will be trying your diet even though I would love to be a size 10 lol!

hi, try to think positive and dont worry. I really hate hospitals. But if i was in your position, the thing that would keep me going would be what its gonna be like after you have recovered from the operation. Without all the pain and discomfort. You'll be fine
