Hi i'm new here and am suffering with GAD in partiuclar really horrible thoughts. I started taking Citalopram on friday 20mg and felt awful all weekend and got no sleep on sunday or monday night. Has anyone else had this side effect? I normally sleep ok even with GAD.
Thanks really appreciate any help.

I had some horrid side affects with citalopram.I stayed on them, and after two weeks it all settled down. When do you take your meds?I take mine in the morning.
It does take a little time for your body to get used to them.:hugs:

Hi

I used to take my citalopram in the evening before bed, that way the side effects usually wore off by morning, like Ellen said they do take time to settle in so do stick with them.

Good Luck

Hi madamgg,

I used to take 20mg in the morning, again at lunchtime and again at night.

Horrendous side effects for the first couple of weeks, but once they started working for me I never looked back.

Yes, my sleep was disturbed with night time pa's, but they subsided too after a while - especially when I decided to stay up all night one night !!

Things should settle for you quite soon, anf hopefully you'll begin to feel a lot better.

have some hugs too!

GGx

Thanks GG, that's re-assuring, i just feel so panicky when i know i can't go back to sleep. Doc has given me tiazapam which i've taken for 2 nights but really don't want to rely on them. Just hoping this will pass as never had probs with sleep before.

Hi :)

I also have taken these med's, the doc is now in the process of changing them after 9 years.
like everyone else has said, for the first 2 weeks things were a bit rough but after that they helped me a great deal, so as everyone says " hang in there" and hopefully things will get better.

Hey :)

I also had trouble sleeping with Citalopram at first. I always take it in the morning. Give it a while longer - sadly it does take a while for the side effects to wear off.

I hope you've managed to get some sleep!

Hiya - just another option. I take my Citlapram at lunchtime, may sound weird as I cant find anyone else on here that does that, but its perfect. The 'kinda weid' feelings kick in...well almost straight away, then are gone within 2 hours. So no lack of sleep and Im ok for work in the mornings. Really seems to be working for me.

Hope things have been getting better for you :) :)

Hi,
I was on Citalopram 2 years or so ago. I had some funny side-effect's with it. The weirdest dreams of all time when i finnally got to sleep, problems with sleeping, problem's with my sex-life (thought my p*nis was going to disappear)...lol

End up i went eventually went to the doctors who gave me something else.

Tried various types of meds....but in the end i seen a pychologist for a few months back then who helped alot better than the tablets ever did.

But everyones different.

Actually been feeling bad anxiety over past few months, but trying to battle through.........take one hurdle at a time.

Thanks for reading.

Tucker....

Hi there,

I can also confirm that after 2 weeks, my side effects did wear off and I felt much better, but just don’t forget to take it everyday, or you can feel a bit rough again for a day or two.
