Hiya all,
Please could I ask you a favour?
You may have noticed that our friends from South Korea are back and spamming a few times per week.
Admins catch these as soon as we come online, but sometimes this isn't before the spammer has totally swamped the forum with 300+ posts.
We can delete a certain amount all in one go but the others we have to delete one by one..... which I am sure you can appreciate takes a long time
Obviously that is our job as admins but.......
If you see south Korean Spam (you will know what it is) please could you use the report feature to report it.
The reason being that it will then send an email to all of the Admins who then may be able to come online earlier and splat the spammer before it gets to the stage of us having to delete each post individually.

question though: how will we know its korean spam? I do not speak a word of korean, i doubt i would recognise what language it was, it could be Chinese spam (no offence to chinese people) for all i would be able to tell.
Yeah, it's definitely Korean. I always make jokes about it being people from the North (because they aren't allowed to use the internet) and they get so excited to be using it, they post over and over again. But its South Korean guys. I speak some Korean, but they won't answer you. They just want to promote their website.

another question cause i a pain:
if we see a normal post but the link in the signature looks to be a spammy one, is it the right thing to do to report it so one of the staffs can have a look?
i reported one just now, not sure if i did the right thing though :blush:

I used to report this one but with it being most days I assumed you likely checked and my reports might just be more work to look through that you didn't need.

Thank you to all who reported our friend this morning :)
Pip dealt with them today.
MNIT, it just helps that if we are late coming on for any reason that we will see a reported thread in our emails so therefore come on earlier than we were planning to wop them (wouldn't have helped this morning for me, I slept til 10.30 am so didn't even look at my emails :roflmao:I am a night owl) good job pip was on the case.
I will look at my emails on my phone when I first wake up as it will tell me any dupes accounts, reported threads etc but I don't come on to the forum properly until I fire up the desktop, as the admin stuff is much easier to do on there...... My Emails will mostly give me an idea on how eager I need to be to log in, if that makes sense.
We will obviously deal with our friends when anyone of us logs in but if we are pre-warned then will be there sooner.... so the report helps us rather than gives us more work... so thank you for reporting them, and all the rest of the spam (same goes to our other reporters)

Yeah, I reported them. They seem to come on about 9:00 pm my time, which is about 5:00 am for you all. I've only seen them when I've checked the forum before I go to bed. And of course, I'm sure they wait to post until no admins are on line.

Thank you for reporting again folks meant i could get up when i woke and went to the toilet (sorry tmi lol) and catch them when they had only done 10 posts.

Are you allowed to gamble in North Korea? spamming for online casinos from Korea could lead to all sorts of problems.....anyone got Kim Jong-un's email address?? (although according to Denis Rodman he is dead again today :O ) he will sort our spambots out for us...

It's a right pain, we don't want to be waking you up for them. It must feel like a chore and I hope it doesn't spoil your mornings?
I just assumed female because they set the accounts up like that but you're right they could be male. Could even be some weird bot, the original volumes were certainly a programme.
Is there no way to route them into somewhere to be released later? I know you guys spent ages trying to find a way, and you've probably already explored this, but I wondered if a rule to route Korean members would at least spare you waking up having to stop the damage? I think they used to sign up as other nationalities too but it's seems to be Korean these days.
Not that I'm suggesting a re-routing somewhere like, oh I don't know, Donald Trump's Twitter account :whistles:

My phone is on do not disturb til 8am, so I only look before then if my bloody cat decides he wants the catflap opening and being fed..... at the minute that happens at about half 5!! and if I end up turning the computer on at that time I will go back to bed again.. normally.
I think they are bots as they post at quite a rate, there can be 200 plus posts in just a few hours.
When they were coming daily like they were last time then we turned on new member moderation throughout the night which meant when we were getting up we could moderate and ban who were the spammers and let anyone else through. Only Nic and Alex can turn that on so at the miinute that isn't possible, and it isn't every night..... yet
We could (I think) put a ban on all Korean IP's joining, but then they will use proxy IP's so it looks like they are coming from other places and then they will be allowed to register... such fun!

venus would it help if all new accounts, no matter where they say they come from, have to have their first few posts looked at before getting allowed up and when a admin has looked at a minimum of one of their posts and allow it up they can then post freely?
would this be a help?
