Are you perimenopausal? Could it be a hot flush?

I have this frequently and see it as an anxiety/adrenaline response. I just ignore it.

I first had it March 25, was advised by GP to go straight to A&E. Chest burning was worse than the heart attack I had. I had burning in my arms once, but the worst was burning in my mouth, throat, nose and eyes. Thought it was Covid as a lot of people in A&E were there for the same reason. Move on 4 months, it has settled but the throat feeling is still there. I saw a specialist on Tuesday who believes it’s all silent reflux. I’m bloated too. This makes sense now, as I was still taking a trial drug in March known for GI issues. I found the chest discomfort was eased by taking Gaviston. If I take it now, it stings.

I'm still standing so hopefully nothing awful..I get loads of weird things happening to me but don't react to them ..or at least try to limit my response to them. I've no idea whether your symptoms were significant or not but I would have thought they would have been investigated further by A&E doctors if they were concerned?

I'm so sorry you are suffering, Mrs S...Has this scuppered your plans to get outside more? xx

That's really good that you are still going out and working your way through your fear. You wouldn't want to be like me though-I think you reach a point where you don't care anymore so any symptoms have little long lasting effect or significance.

I hope you get some reassurance from the holter monitoring. I had one done ages ago which showed up loads of benign ectopics which are completely harmless. My son is having one fitted on Weds because he has a heart abnormality and is on beta blockers and ramipril for his BP-hopefully these meds will have improved the arrhythmia xx

What a week l had, awful had to have a smear, not looking forward to it as you ladies know, the nurse took my blood pressure it was very high she took it again still high she said go in the waiting room wait 20 minutes l will take it again.

Well l went into full panic it was awful l couldn't calm down so when she took it again it was higher, she said I'm getting the doctor omg anxiety overload.

He told me l had to go hospital but l was upset l begged to go home, he said against his better judgement l could he gave me amlodipine and told me up my fluoxetine to 40mg and to go to hospital if l got worse, so day three taking extra meds feeling horrible anyone else experienced this, and how long will l feel shaky and weak for.

any advice would be welcomed thanks for reading xx

Why on earth were they trying to take your blood pressure when you were having a panic attack?

how long will l feel shaky and weak for.

Your body will be absolutely swimming in stress hormones and it takes a lot longer for them to settle down as it does to fire them out.

It's not the best idea to take a BP reading before a smear test as most women are anxious, and a higher reading will trigger a panic attack in someone who has an anxiety disorder.

I have experience of blood pressure readings triggering panic attacks.

From where I'm sitting, your nurse and GP need some basic training on how to cope with patients who have anxiety.

I had my smear a few weeks ago. No BP taking My heart raced, as it does, but there was no panic attack.

You're ok.

Absolutely incredible...but doesn't surprise me. Why on earth would they take a BP reading before a smear?

So sorry you have been put through this, Mrs S...and then to say go to hospital if you got "worse"..

Can you speak to an out of hours doc to explain what you have been told and to ask for some sensible advice? x

Thank you so much NoraB for your reply, she gave me my smear first them because I'm on cezrette they always take my blood pressure , but she new l was very anxious and panicking so l think she shouldn't of taken it,

it didn't help that they made me stay there for two hours all together l said this environment isn't helping me to calm down, its just left me physically and mentally drained the whole experience was not pleasant

thanks again take care xx

I agree! What a stupid thing to do, take someone's BP when they are already stressed, then stress them more by keeping them waiting in an already fear feeding place. Tut tut to the so called medical professionals.
Mrs S, please don't overthink your health status.
A similar thing happened to me at my GP surgery.
I was waiting for sometime in the waiting room and becoming already anxious with a kid kicking the wooden slats of the seat. By the time I got to the Dr and sat down I was agitated and nervous. Then out come the gadget. Mr C came in with me and was talking about me to the Doc which annoyed me, so I was angry even further and the Doc let me talk back to Mr C while she was taking a reading. And you are not supposed to speak when you are having a reading. And being aware of her shocked stare I made things worse by trying to do slow breathing by holding an intake of breathe which upped it even further because I didn't get to release the breathe in time.
Also bearing in mind I'd had little sleep and rest from caring from my Partner's mum, my mum and Mr C.
Then you get, "your BP reading is high you need to watch that.
Then on the way out I noticed a do it yourself machine so thought I'd double check and it gave me my normal reading.
But this became an obsession and as my mum had a machine for daily readings I thought I'd check me too. 'Too' becoming the prime word. Too much checking.
Then Christmas Day. I ask you? What idiot would check themselves on Christmas Day? Me!
Well it was high of course, so made it worse by doing some exercises and then it was really high. Of course it was I'd just been exercising. But it ended up in a PA and an early night.
I was absolutely fine the next day and vowed to stop using the machine.
I do worry from time to time, but I worry about dozens of other things as well.
Sorry Mrs S I've been going on a bit, but I wanted you to realise that your experience was not under normal circumstances and you should not put more worry on yourself over this.
Some good relaxation is what you need xx :hugs:

Ah bless you Mrs Stress Ed, what an awful time you’re going through, for me smear test = stress = panic its only natural to feel like this i think. I understand how you feel & that you just want to feel well & normal again, i feel exactly the same, everyday there’s an unexplained feeling or pain in my throat & now its moved to my mouth as well, just so worn out & sick of it, can’t see dr or dentist so diagnosing myself (bad move) just want to think normal thoughts & not have this terrible sense of dread hanging over me, i know covid isn’t helping. Sorry i can’t be of more help but just wanted you to know i’m thinking of you. Take care & hope you can have a nice evening.

Mrs S, can you take the reading after watching something relaxing on tv. Or listen to some calming music before you do it.
Lol, I used to take it after cooking dinner or making a bed or something stupidly fuelling.
I wouldn't recommend that.
Do you know what your reading was at the Docs?
I understand if you don't want to say. xx

BP home monitoring is bound to give you anxiety at the best of times..It's such an unnatural thing to have to do..I don't have any advice other than to try to treat it as a routine annoying procedure which your doctor has asked you to do and which is a pain but not an alarming threat? Record the readings but don't overthink the significance if they are higher than normal? The more used you get to recording them the less of a fear they may become as the days pass..?xxx

MRS STRESS ED
17-10-20, 17:55
Thats a good idea Carnation l will try that xx my reading was 200/133 very high even writing makes me think gosh thats high, but I am resting and taking my amlodipine so lets hope the doctor rang me the next morning it had dropped to 123/ 98 so hopefully it will go back to normal range xx

hope your well Carnation xx

Mrs S, although you had a high reading at the Docs, I know many people that have had that reading and more. So please don't fret about anything nasty.
Let's face it having a smear is a terrifying ordeal for a woman. It's hardly surprising you had a high reaction.
Did the Doc mention diet and gentle exercise like walking?
The diet is the normal spiel like more fruit and veg oats and brown / granary bread. Laying off any fatty foods.
That reading you got the next day is fantastic!!!
I'll say that again so you hear it loud and clear.
Your reading was fantastic!!!!
And it seems your experience was a hyper one so nothing to worry about under normal circumstances.
I can understand how this would leave you feeling anxious and frightened and in my opinion it should never have been taken pre or after a smear.
As time goes on and you get more comforting readings, that day will fade and you'll put it down to being purely 'shit scared'!!
You'll be fine Mrs S xx:hugs:

hi everyone had a shocking night last night, l woke up with my arm numb and pins and needles in my left arm, l went into total panic, l just couldn't rationalise anything l kept thinking heart attack,

So today l feel very vulnerable tired and anxious, l have done some meditation and l have been resting, I'm worried about going to work tomorrow what with me being on new medication, l don't want to have a melt down in work, but l have had alot of time off because of my anxiety just feel like I'm letting everyone down xx

Mrs S, that's happened to me hundreds of times and it's normally if I've been laying awkwardly or I've been clenching my fist in the night. Please don't think it's anything to do with your heart. Your readings are perfectly fine. That unfortunate incident at the Docs has put you on high alert and causing you anxiety.
Time will help this to pass.
As for work don't put any pressure on yourself see how you feel in the morning. You come first remember that. xx :hugs:

Hi Mrs S so sorry to hear you had a bad night. I’m always getting pins & needles in my arms & hands when i wake up, you were probably laying awkwardly on your arm maybe. I know its so hard to have to work when you’re feeling so rubbish but if you feel up to it go in because sometimes just being out of the house & mixing with others can make you feel better & take your mind of it all, i’m sure you won’t have a meltdown because you can do this you’re stronger than you think, we’re all much stronger than we give ourselves credit for. Really hope you feel better soon, let us know how you get on tomorrow if you can, take care

Hi Mrs S,

Like I say in my previous post, (think you missed it).
Don't put any pressure on yourself you come first!
Retail therapy is always a good distraction.
I'm sure there's many people taking more time off than they would normally, so don't you be feeling guilty.
A week will give you time to adjust to meds and you'll be in a much better mind frame. xx

Glad you've found something that helps and choosing presents for other people is distracting and therapeutic, I find..Anything which draws you away from symptom focusing and worry.

You've had a setback, Mrs S but you'll be back at work soon and more able to function after a week to get over this scare..You'll be missed by the residents, I'm sure! It's good to be valued by others..as you are xx
