Hey everyone. So I am in the US. Covid cases are around couple hundreds around where I live. I went to the hospital yesterday for another check up and mindlessly put my phone randomly everywhere on doctor's office chairs and specimen collection room chairs.... I know, stupid. Then I came home, I completely forgot to sanitize my phone and touched my eyes and nose many many times until I realized too late. Now I feel like I have exposed myself stupidly to covid and Im scared to have it and to give it to my family!! 😭

Did you wash your hands and where a mask?
I wouldn’t over think the phone thing because I have genuinely been out in supermarkets and stuff touching products and not washing my hands until I got home and touched my phone in the process and survived.
Equally I was put in the covid hospital department because I had a “cough” smokers cough and I was having serious panic attacks and I took my mask off and was inhaling the air deep and again I didn’t contract covid.
Don’t panic (easier said than done) but I assure unless you are face to face with a positive individual you cannot catch covid.
Stay strong!

Hi.

What do you think will help you feel better about this situation? We are all in the same boat, even if we are wearing a mask, touching it is contaminating it, I don't know the population of in your area but your chances of catching it are low if it was just a quick appt I think as doctors offices are sanitary places to begin with especially at the moment. I wish I had a wand so all I can say is I hope you were wearing a mask. Obviously they are not magic but certainly do help. I know in some hospitals/doctors offices you are given a mask upon entry, was that the case for you?

You are almost certainly alright. As more research comes out experts really say that transmission by surfaces is very rare. It's really the air droplets, which is why wearing masks makes a difference. As long as you wore your mask you should be ok. Plus, someone WITH COVID would have had to have sneezed or coughed on one of the exact place where you put your phone for this to even be remotely possible. Even then, the amount of virus droplets would likely be too few to transmit.

I'll add that I was in the hospital being prepared for surgery sitting in different chairs, putting my phone on all kinds of surfaces and then using it to make calls, crying and having to take my mask off to blow my nose with tissues someone handed me... and I did not catch Covid.
