Has this ever happened to anyone?

I noticed last night in a dark room that the window disappeared when I stared at it for longer than a few seconds. My vision would literally black out. This really scared me. Is this normal? My husband refused to answer as he thought it was a silly thing to fret over. However, I have never noticed something like this. While staring at a window or a dimly lit area in a dark room my vision would black out. It was so scary

That happens to everyone. It's just how the eyes work. They try to adjust to what you're looking at in low light conditions, and it just starts to sort of blot everything out. Kind of like an optical illusion.

Thank you for your responses. I feel a lot better knowing this is normal :) I guess I’ve never noticed as I never sleep in the dark! We were sleeping over at a relative’s house that weekend and there wasn’t a nightlight lol. So I kinda lost my mind when I noticed this disappearing act in the dark
