I was eating bread earlier and a piece of crumb went down the wrong pipe. I started violently coughing and the piece did come up but now my throat and chest feel irritated. I read you can get pneumonia from this. How likely is it?

Also, it's very normal that your throat would feel irritated. But the piece came up, so there's nothing to cause an issue in your lungs anyway.

Yeah I also threw up after and feel like I got everything out, I’m just worried some tiny breadcrumb went into my lungs and I’m going to get pneumonia

Blimey!

I had a chip go down the wrong way in 2010.

And there was that tea I 'inhaled' the other week.

I had a nasty experience with an imperial mint once, too.

Using your theory...I'm well and truly buggered! :scared15:

Yeah but i read that without knowing it could go into your lungs!

Food generally doesn't know much, unless cannibalism's your thing.

This is a non-issue; don't worry.

I have read that this could happen though and I’m worried about pneumonia

Not quite sure how many people you need to tell you that you have nothing to worry about really.

again you have nothing to worry about

If it helps, I grew up on a farm. I've seen animals that have inhaled water or milk and developed pneumonia as a result. It takes far more than bread crumb to lead to that outcome.
