Since being diagnosed with severe anxiety I am apprehensive about phoning the doctors over problems I have. In the past I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
Today I have woken up with a horrible pain in my right upper abdomen. Under my ribs ish it’s ever so painful it’s making me feel quite sick. I don’t know whether to:
A) ring my GP
B) ring 111
C) take two paracetamol and have a bath to see if that helps
D) go to a and e if I’ve ruptured something
Please can you help if possible with the best way to proceed as I have no clue in the slightest what is causing this pain it’s horrible [emoji3525][emoji3525][emoji3525]
Thank you

I'd say ring 111, since they're going to have more information at their fingertips.

Have you been reading my posts? Because this is EXACTLY what I'm having at the mo. Only I've had it for about 3 weeks.

I consulted my GP because it isn't easing up and it's the right thing to do. I've had blood tests, a nice little tube to poo in, and I'm having ultrasound next week. Painkillers don't touch it.

I would ring your GP cocker first, and if you're not satisfied, and you're in a LOT of pain - then ring 111.

I'm not actually joking when I say it could even be trapped wind because that can get VERY painful. Try some peppermint tea and have a good fart. X

Nora, I was apprehensive about mentioning trapped wind until you mentioned it. But yes! Can be very painful and especially around the ribcage. But can appear anywhere in the body.
Always best to get checked out though if you worried Phoenixess. x

Hey Nora and carnation
Bit of an update .... apologies Nora I hadn’t seen your posts but bless you hope you get better soon....my mum felt the area and felt a lump so she rang the doctor on my behalf because I started to cry it’s making me feel nauseous. Anyway he phoned me back and he said “I hear you have a lump” probably expecting health anxiety lady to be on the phone but I was calm and in bed and I explained I woke up with this pain described where it was and he asked me down to be examined at 3.30pm I’ll let you know how I get on. I’m hoping and praying just a torn muscle but don’t know why I feel so sick with it.
Xxxx

I’m currently in a and e frightened to my whits end. I don’t have any PM space in my inbox until I delete some when I head home. The GP said I had a abdominal wall heamatoma! My anxiety went through the roof and I ended up crying my eyes out and in severe pain so mum brought me to a and e. As I was in such a state they were treating me as a mental health patient and not as a physically ill patient when I explained it to the nurse in the mental patient room she was like wtf? So then she went to speak to the consultant who said it CANNOT be a heamatoma (as if I’ve been googling that ffs) but they gave me paracetamol and said they will examine me. It’s like a burning stinging pain now just had enough if I’m going to die I’m going to die. Sod this I’m infuriated at myself and my body and my brain I want to give up!!!

Those two facts are probably related. Is your mum there with you?

Why's anybody going to judge you?

You're in the best place for an accurate diagnosis, Phoenixess. Let the doctors make their mind up as to what is causing the pain. The GP was probably being cautious. You've been offered paracetamol so no one is unduly concerned.

Well don’t I feel an attention seeking anxiety crazy woman right now. They said I’ve definitely torn my muscle nothing else major going on and I am not internally bleeding which is nice to know.
If I throw up any blood or I pass any blood or I get new symptoms I go back. If it’s no better in a few days I go back to my GP there we go utter fool me:

So glad it's nothing serious!

The GP said haematoma so presumably he sent you straight to A&E? You aren't a fool because you were given a poor diagnosis. At least there's nothing major going on so rest up at home and no heavy lifting. Take pain killers (I'd avoid ibuprofen and stick to paracetamol if you can) and give yourself a break from beating yourself up xx

Hot bath early night and dominoes is the best prescription

Yea for sure, if the GP gave that diagnosis and had you sent to a+e for checks, then you are in no way in the wrong to look after yourself, dont feel bad about it. Fear is SO hard to manage, and its understandable that you are checking now because your anxiety levels are still going to be high despite the positive news from the hospital, when they were that high it always takes me a few days for the body to come close to relaxing again. Distract yourself as much as possible and if at all humanly possible, sleep. Message anytime ok!

Hi all I’ve eaten half a Victoria sponge cake that’s self control right there. I spoke to our local mental health support line she was wonderful help. Despite that going from really wonderful ...... what I didn’t like was when I arrived at a and e I basically was made out to be an attention seeker and focussed on my mental health first it made no sense for them to judge me like that

On the contrary, you left the other half. That's self-control in my book! :winks:

I'm going to sound awful here, and I'm sorry, but this is possibly a result of what's happened in the past. From what I can gather, if you call an ambulance or go to A&E several times for reasons that turn out to be anxiety, that's going to be on your record.

This is a really, really good reason to work on getting your HA under control.

Yer it’s going to come from the two weeks when I hit a crisis back in May to be fair I only had a panic attack due to what happened back in May. Anyway that was yesterday today is a new day. I’ve had a good nights sleep had a diazepam at6am because I was so shaky from the crazy dreams and yada yada but feeling a lot better now. Not sure if I told you blue but I have my psychiatric assessment with my current CPN on 30th who is assessing me to start a programme with another CPN called the well being pathway. It’s a structured intense goal setting 1-1 practical CBT from what I can gather as well as talking therapy all structured at my own pace.
I have not had a day of panic yesterday since May I can’t believe that happened, it was not fun but onwards and upwards forget yesterday. Yesterday is gone! Today is a new day!
