Hi I am getting very worried about my tongue. When I stick it out; really far out, I notice that it is all veiny and has little kind of spots on the side right at the back. I've been checking it all day as I'm not sure how long it has been like that, maybe always! I suffer bad with health anxiety so it's going through the roof now as I'm thinking the worse. Anyone else noticed this with their tongue? Kind words appreciated. :-)

Hi there, like you I am suffering bad with HA at the moment. It truly is horrible.
There has been a few times when I've worried myself sick about my tongue. The one thing I've learnt from it is not to examine my tongue. I just don't do it anymore. If you examine your tongue you will discover that they really are horrible looking things. A few examples of the things I've worried about on my tongue are bumps, red spots, white spots, a large white patch, a red patch, veins and of course it has been sore as well.
If there was something serious wrong with your tongue you would know it. So yes, it probably always has been the way it is now. Just try to accept that that is how your tongue looks. Don't worry about it, they really are weird looking things!!

Thank you for replying. The thing is I went to the dentist last week with another mouth issue and that cleared up within a couple of days! I'm sure she would have seen the back of my tongue when doing the examination but my health anxiety has taken over and I'm concerned she has missed it!

That's exactly what's happened here. A dentist was looking straight into your mouth with a big bright light and your tongue was staring her straight in the face. Of course she would have seen if anything was a bit off or not right. She more than likely saw what you saw, but said nothing because it's normal.
If I were you I would take great comfort in the fact the you went to the dentist last week.
As I said previously, tongues are strange looking things. It's best to leave them alone

I'm pretty sure those white spots are normal?

I've got big bumps/spots at the back of my tongue! I noticed them years ago and an ENT specialist confirmed they were normal at an appointment for something else. Look up circumvallate papillae, I think that's what the specialist called them.

Thanks for all the replies they have truly helped. My anxiety has settled down now thankfully and the voice of reason has kicked in! :-)
