A couple of weeks ago I was absent-mindedly rubbing my palm while talking to a colleague, and I noticed that I have a lump under the skin on the palm of my right hand. It's small, about the size of a bb. You can't see it on the surface, so I have no idea how long it's been there.

I went to see my GP, who said it feels like a cyst. He said it's mobile (I dunno how they can tell, it doesn't feel mobile to me). Just to make sure, of course, he referred me to see the hand specialist, so I have an appointment this week to see the nurse practitioner at the orthopedic department. She works with the hand surgeon and specializes in just hand related problems.

I'm pretty worried about this, as part of my job is computer repair (among other things), so having anything wrong with my hands is kind of scary.

Thanks for letting me vent here. I don't have anybody I can talk to about this.

I saw the hand specialist today and she did a quick ultrasound to see what was going on. I do in fact have a tiny cyst just below the skin. She showed it to me on the machine, and said it is fluid filled. It's too small for a surgeon to easily drain, but it's also not big enough to cause any problems, so I can just leave it be for now.
