Hi,

So on Friday I had a phone call with the doctor and he wants to put me on high blood pressure medication, I mentioned I was wanting to get pregnant and mentioned I'd read Aldomet was a well used drug for pregnancy. I don't know a lot about medications and have since read that this is an older drug but useful in pregnancy but can cause liver and blood issues, and it's recommended that tests be done beforehand.

The doctor phoned back today but I was too worked up to answer it but I will phone back tomorrow, he's wanting to talk about going onto this, but has anyone used this or still does? I've heard newer ones can be better but which when wanting to have a baby? I'm so stressed by all this as I hate taking medication anyway.

Methyldopa (Aldomet) has the best track record for controlling BP during pregnancy, but the beta-blockers are very close so would be a good alternative if you can/don't want to take methyldopa.
