Hiya

Stats say more women than men suffer anxiety, 3 to 1 I think, but some specialists think that these figures are wrong, as men are less likely to seek help or talk about it.

I have heard more women have this than men but too agree men less likely to go and be diagnosed with this. Is alcoholism higher in men? My Dad died from alcohol abuse - years and years of it think now was likely depressed and anxious. We know morenow and have each others support with this forum which helpsavoid needing the bottle!

Not sure. My mother was a chronic alcoholic for years, and most on her side (think around 14 brothers/sisters) seem to have come to grief through drink or heavy drinkers.

Begs the question is it a gene? anxiety or addiction?

Strange

I understand that less men seek help and get diagnosed but they must have a computer and be able to find this forum?

If you suffer in silence then I am silent. Except I talk with my fingers.

They say women are better at multi-tasking, so maybe that works against them - less able to benefit from distraction? I'd hate to be able to worry and think about something else at the same time :p

I prefer to think it's an intelligence thing (slow mind v quick witted - ignorance is bliss after all) - you need a mind to work fast enough to get into the loop of fear feeding itself... if someone's mind doesn't work quick enough there's a limit to how fast they can feed the fear and it never gets as far as panic :D

- and isn't it generally agreed that women are generally more emotionally intelligent than blokes?

Hi
I feel that men probably don't admit that they have anxiety as in society they are meant to be seen as coping with life and strong. I think its good to see men on this site as it shows that they can deal with things instead of burying their head in the sand!!

My mum is a recovering alcoholic, and my grandad died in relation to it.
Scares me sometimes, although I think I have pretty much had anxiety/health anxiety all my life.
My mum is now clinically depressed and I believe an agrophobic, so I wonder if it is all in the genes somewhere along the line

i think women r more prone because women have children and that makes us go abit mad 2 begin with:wacko: then we get more attatched 2 our children n fear for them n then just worry in general n its very easy to get depressed after havin a bay coz u realise ur life has sooo much more to lose n men dont feel that bond that women do.. theres a few reasons theres more women but i definitely think us bearing children has more to do with it!!

I voted for girl for me but my DH also has panic attacks.

The Doctor won't give him any medication for it (and he definitely needs it). I think it's because the idiot gp thinks men shouldn't have panic attacks.
