Hi guys,

So I recently got an abdominal echoscopy due to some digestion problems and was very surprised when the doctor said that I have an enlarged liver. I never had any problems with my liver, I don't drink alcohol, I'm not overweight, so that was quite a surprise. Now I am waiting for another appointment with a gastroenterologist to discuss this problem, but I googled the possible causes and now I'm freaking out because all the causes for enlarged liver are quite serious - from cancer to heart failure. I don't know what to think, this has made me very anxious. :( what do you think?

You overlooked the less serious and benign reasons that Dr. Google told you. No one can say for sure here. Best to do your best until the appointment. That said, in the time I've been here, 99% of peoples worst fears were not realized.

All the reasons for enlarged liver are serious? Stop searching on Google because that’s not true.
In 2017 I found out my liver was enlarged, it’s 22cms which is huge!!! I have had lots of tests done, I even saw a liver specialist and to date they have not found a reason.

See the specialist but don’t freak yourself out in the meantime.

Thank you both for your replies, you did help me feel somewhat better.
The causes I have found are indeed all quite serious - the "least serious" condition that I found would be Hepatitis A, which seems to be quite treatable. But I collected these possible causes from just a few pages, because I didn't want to dive too deep into Google as I knew it wouldn't do me any good, but the damage is already done.
Sigh... I guess the best thing I can do really is to wait for my appointment and not to try to figure out the reasons myself.

Well I guess that’s why we shouldn’t look to Google for answers before there is a diagnosis because as I said my liver is enlarged and I have none of those serious things going on.
