Hi all
Not been on for a few days, actually felt a bit better till today :(. I went to see the nurse yesterday (only for usual contraception pills sorry if tmi) but while i was there i tried to talk to her about how i've been feeling of late and asked for a bit of advice. Basically she just didn't want to know, i was told everyone gets stressed etc from time to time and that i shouldn't worry. Oh then gave me the usual lecture about smoking [Sigh...]. My blood pressure and everything was fine so I should of just come out of there not worrying but I did arrgghhhh and now today i feel like poo again. I guess i've just come on to have a moan really, but just annoyed that I was swept under the carpet so to speak.

hi Tracy,

Don't let it get to you!! What do nurses know anyway - besides how to give injections and dress wounds?? (sorry if anyone reading is a nurse lol). They always give me the same lecture about smokig [Sigh...] There's no point letting it get to you. You will stop if and when you want to, right? As you said, your blood pressure, etc are fine so no worries. She was probably just in a bad mood..

Hi Tracy,

I can understand how annoyed you are I would be the same.
but as we always say you have to go through someting like this
to understand it.
Hope you are feeling better now.

I agree with the comment that she was probably in a bad mood. Don't let this drag you down your doing well.

Hiya Tracy,

I got the same response from the first GP I saw 8 months ago. He was very patronising, telling me I should have a good night sleep and Id feel much better!
I guess some health proffessionals are more aware of anxiety and its many 'faces' than others.
I also think that some are more capable of empathising than others.
Luckily, the 2nd GP I saw had been through it herself so knew what I was going through.
As I tell myself so often in life, just put it down to ignorance.

Keep smiling

Thanks Vern - as it's Seh she's almost excused... I know she doesn't mean it ...

General nurses do 8 weeks psychiatric placement in their training but I can honestly say I never saw anyone with panic and anxiety at the Maudsley - mostly Bipoloar, schitzophrenia and eating disorders

I do agree though thats it's got more to do with what you or your family have experienced unless you've got additional specialist experience which most practice nurses do not have in mental health.

However there is no excuse for her not listening or being sympathetic to you Tracy.

Thanks for listening, have to say i've been giving myself a right talking to today (people at work been looking at me a bit odd tho lol). Think what annoyed me most really was that i'd built myself up to say something just to have it ignored, but never mind like you say probably a bad mood. I'll just keep coming here and pestering you lot lol and i have to say you've been great :D.
Thank you all

Hi Tracy,
Have to agree with everyone else, but there was no need for her to be like that! I am used to the docs sweeping my problems under the table, so I know how you feel, but luckily, the nurse at my practice is better than the doctors. I went on Tuesday and she sat listening to me waffle on about my palpitations/missing beats for ages and really tried hard to reassure my that I was fine.
Hope you feel better soon - but you must stop talking to yourself!!!!!!! I do it in my head all the time especially if I am having irrational thoughts.

Take care,

Linda.

Sadly just because somebody is a trained nurse it doesn't mean that they have any experience of panic or anxiety disorders (same is true for some doctors), so they may not be the best people to get advice from. I personally feel that you will get a lot more useful info from people on this forum, I know it has helped me far more than anything else. Anyways, glad to hear that you had a better day, may there be many more of them.

Hi Tracy

Have a good whinge about stuff that annoys you - we're all here to listen - venting spleen is a good pressure valve for us all and everyone does it!

To echo everything the others have said - try not to let it upset you, maybe it was a bad moment for the nurse, maybe not - it's hard for non-sufferers to understand how you're feeling.. this is one of the many reasons this is such a great place, we've all been there and know how nasty it feels... It's not nice of the nurse but there are bucketfuls of understanding and sympathy here so come and vent and speak your mind here and you know you've got a captive audience who want to help out! :)

Good luck and good health
