I am in panic. My neighbour whose window is maybe 1.5 m next to mine (window of her toilet) is coughing all the time and I think she has covid. I've read this (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fbuil.2021.666923/full)and I am very scared. Mostly my window is closed because I have a cat but at night I kept it open and she goes to the toilet at night and coughing.

It's so ironic. I don't go anywhere and the thought of getting it like this, I don't know, it seems like a destiny.

I would think catching Covid from an opened window that’s 1.5M away is probably hovering somewhere between utterly impossible and absolutely no fu##ing way.

Just no, honestly.

I agree with Gary. Any germs will get blown away in the fresh air. The only way it might be possible is if you're both leaning out the window facing each other and she's coughing - if not, don't worry about it!

I very much doubt it.

Surely the particles will be diffused and carried away by the fresh air/wind when travelling between your next door neighbour's toilet window and your adjoining open window plus I seriously doubt your neighbour will be coughing directly out of their (open) toilet window.

Just out of interest, which room is it in your apartment that you open the window of at night that adjoins your next door neigbour's toilet window?

Apart from the website you linked, I haven't seen/heard/read any such info elsewhere.

Thank you all very much. It's my bedroom and mostly is closed because of the cat so he can't fall but at night I sleep with an open window, my bed isn't near the window though.

You should be mostly OK then.

In fact, you're probably more likely to get run over by a bus than catch Covid from your neighbour via open windows. (partly said figuratively/in jest).
