Hi! Anyone on Wellbutrin/buproprion? My daughter (14 years old) was prescribed wellbutrin for depression, and I’m not sure it’s working [emoji50]

Bupropion is a fairly stimulating AD with a pretty good track record for clinical depression, though is often too stimulating for those with anxiety. How long has your daughter been taking it and at what dose?

She started in June on 150 mg, and she upped to 300 2-3 weeks ago

The usual adult dose range is 100-450mg, with most taking around 300mg in 2-3 divided doses (immediate-release tablets). They no longer publish dose recommendations for kids and teens because of the FDA suicidality black-box beatup, but it used to be a starting dose of about 1mg/kg body weight with maintenance doses of between 3-6mg/kg.

It may be a few more weeks before the higher dose takes effect. Did she get any benefit from the initial 150mg? Also, did the prescriber say why bupropion was chosen and not a SSRI?

It seemed like she got som effect from the 150 mg dose until two months, then she started crying every day and the doc upped the dose. He never said why he prescribed wellbutrin instead of ssri [emoji848]

If there was a response it improves the odds of it working at a higher dose so this is definitely worth pursuing.
