View Full Version : Stared at a bright cloudy sky (not sun) - eye damage?!

Hi all

So I was just staring out of the window at the sky (cloudy and as if sun trying to poke through) thinking how it looked pretty. After about 10 seconds, my eyes kind of ached and now I feel almost like I'm seeing light and dark patches...

Obviously I wouldn't stare at the sun, but could this have caused me any permanent eye damage? (Freaking out and seeing floaters)

Thanks in advance

If looking at the sky caused eye damage, most of world's population would have eye damage so..... :whistles:

It can't possibly cause damage as we look at the sky all the time.

What made you worry about this when I bet your eyesight went straight back to normal?

I wondered about this once too, but not from a damage point of view, more from a "why was it easier for my eyes to readjust from viewing bright hazy sky to everything else, when I was younger?" sort of point of view.
The simple answer (because I can't really remember the technical one, haha) is: everything starts to go as you age.
You're likely fine, but see an ophthalmologist for an annual visit if it really concerns you!

You're likely fine

Not 'likely'. TOTALLY!
