Hi, I was wondering if there’s anyone here with acid reflux who finds that it causes them have trouble swallowing? I’m struggling with both god and drink currently. I’ve been told by the GP and a hospital doctor (I was admitted for one night last week due to this) that it’s very likely due to my severe long-standing acid reflux. However I’m due to have an urgent endoscopy soon to investigate this. Just waiting for the appointment.

Okay, first of all, don't panic. I have had acid reflux for more years than I can remember and I was where you are right now and I was scared to death. I could not swallow at all at that moment. They did an endoscopy and you know what? It was just some inflammation. So I just wanted to give you some perspective that having trouble swallowing does not automatically mean it's cancer and it's pretty rare for it to be. So I wish you luck and I hope it all turns out well for you, but don't worry yourself sick like I did.

Difficulty swallowing is a very common symptom of GERD.

When I have a flare up, I usually have trouble swallowing too. I feel like I have this ball stuck in my throat too. While it is super uncomfortable, I never had any serious issues with it. Something that helped me at those times was having a warm drink. In my case, I would drink ginger tea. :)
