Hard lump, middle finger joint

Hi,
So a month ago I noticed a small bump inside my middle finger, where the finger meets the palm. I thought nothing of it. Now it is huge, rock hard like a marble under the skin. I've had my friends feel it and agree it's there and 'weird'.
I've googled, had everything from ganglion cyst to arthritis to bone cancer.
Trying to stay rational, booking docs appointment tomorrow. Has anyone had anything similar?
