Does the brain remember pain?

I've had IBS for many years. A flare-up will start with maybe a bout of gastro which will clear up within days but is then followed by days, or weeks and sometimes even months of pains in my stomach and chest. Over time and doctors visits, blood tests colonoscopy endoscopy x-rays, and finding nothing the Doctor diagnosed anxiety aggravated ibs. (I have health anxiety so any symptom puts me into panic mode)
I read an article today about the brain remembering pain as in an amputated limb, but this can be applied to any injury. The brain remembers.
It makes perfect sense but I dont yet know how to make my brain forget that pain.
Anyone agree? Any suggestions?
