What do swollen glands feel like under your jaw?

I think I may have a slight viral infection because I feel a bit crap with a sore throat, but my gland (I assume it's that) on the left side feels tender. I was told once that if glands are swollen you'll really feel them and feels like a bump.

It totally varies. Can swell up a lot or just be tender. Totally normal

Had this last week from a burn on my gums. They just felt tender and slightly bigger but no round ball like a lymph node.
