On March 17th I scraped my arm on an old dirty metal air conditioner in my closet. It was just a scratch and not a wound or bleeding. I didn’t think anything of it, so I just put antibiotic cream and a bandaid on it. Today I was cleaning it and noticed it looks very red and infected. I did a virtual visit with my doctor, and he just said to keep cleaning it and take oral antibiotics if it doesn’t improve by Friday. He said he was not concerned about tetanus, but I can’t stop worrying about it because the metal was old and dirty. Should I get a tetanus shot anyway? What are the chances I will get tetanus from this? I’m freaking out

When did you last have a tetanus jab?

The chances are slim to none by the way.

Thank you for responding. I honestly can’t remember. I had all of them as a child, and possibly one booster but my memory is foggy. I have not had one recently. I’m 29. I did ask if I should get one and he said no, but of course i’m still paranoid
