I have had ongoing shortness of breath since Xmas and 2 chest X-rays , one CT as drs wanted to rule out pulmonary embolism.
I have been to see another GP - 3 months after this started. My last x Ray not back yet. Anyway oxygen levels are 97 on rest, 95 on walking but doctor can still hear bi- lateral crackles on both sides of lungs. Said sounded like Velcro and talked about possible fibrosis and has referred me to a specialist. I of course googled pulmonary fibrosis to find it’d progressive with life expectancy of only 2-3 years . I’m now in a panic , frightened I’m going to be diagnosed with something that’s going to kill me. I’m 52 years old and a non smoker. Could it just be a chest infection that hasn’t cleared ?
Is there anyone who’s experienced anything like this ? I’m so scared 😟

My father has pulmonary fibrosis; age 83 or so he was given a life expectancy of 5-10 years. He's 86 now and still going strong.

I was trying to be supportive; if my elderly dad can live a normal life then you can, too.

That said, I maybe won't bother next time.

My mom has pulmonary fibrosis, she was diagnosed a couple years ago. She’s early 60’s and still doing well. There are a ton of treatments for this if it’s what you have, and they’re helping her to manage her symptoms at least. But it’s best to see the specialist and have the diagnosis confirmed before you start stressing about it too much.
