Hi Dlou

I took Citalopram for 10 years on and off and the med really helped me, it used to take the edge off the panic. But it didnt stop the anxiety all togeather. A mixture of therapy and the drug worked best for me.:)

I have just come off Citalopram after being on it for 5 months.
Definitely helped my anxiety and mood. Unfortunately it made me worse initially while I waited for the medication to work. It took about 6 weeks before I started seeing a positive effect.
Don't worry though because it will often work quicker than that. It is worth persisting with too even if you do get some horrible symptoms initially.

All the best,

Neil

I second everything neil1975 says!

I took it for 6mnths and the first few weeks were absolute hell - but I'm glad I kept on with it.

Citalopram and counselling sessions really helped to sort me out!

I'd go for it if I were you.

I used it for about 4 weeks- I was a zombie and couldn't get out of bed and do basic tasks. My doc took me off of it. She said the symptoms should have lifted by then. I also had really bad headaches. I was only on 5mg too, which isn't much.

I have heard really great things about this drug and understand it has the least side effects of the SSRI's so I think you should give it a try and see how it goes- I wish the best to you!

I took it for about 9 months.

I was in a big mess so I couldn't tell the side effects from the actual hell I was in. But after 2 weeks the effects had lessened and my partner began to notice differences in me

. It helped level me out to then begin the journey in getting better ( I also had therapy). I did feel emotionally numb but that was a relief after the roller coaster of emotions I'd been going through!

I am grateful to Citalopram for leveling me out enough to gain strength to then start getting better.

Don't expect amazing miracles - it is a very slow process. Hugs and good luck xxxx

It makes you notice side affects really quickly doesn't it :S

I'm taking them for anxiety, I felt affects after just ONE.

Yday morning I took my first 10mg pill, about an hour and a half later I felt very drowsy, but this wore off after a couple of hours.
No more side affects yday really other than feeling tired very early, I then couldn't get to sleep... woke up many many times durin the night, and finally woke up at 5:30, had to get up with a fast heartbeat, feeling VERY anxious, thoughts of dropping out of college running through my mind :S

An hour later I felt fine, took my second pill, and now its 7:30am and I am in a great mood suddenly... Hmmm can't wait for these side affects to go, I hope they don't get too much worse, heard these things are really effective xxx

Oh and a very mild headache I feel coming on.

I am 5 months on Cit. Difficult first month with side effects but I have now settled with 25mg. I haven't had any depression since the new year which is great. I still get small bouts of anxiety but I have learnt how to deal with them and how for them not to escalate too much. Though I must add that I do go to counselling as well, it's important to get to the bottom of the anxiety. Cit has given me breathing space to make positive changes in my life.

love that post heavenly, I was on citalopram for just over 8 years and have been off them 9 weeks tomorrow, they definitely helped me because I just wasn`t up to coping. they gave me a crutch and I went for counselling, stopped drinking for 2 years, now have 2 fantastic kids, and haven`t had time off sick from work for over 4 years except colds / injuries - nothing to do with anxiety.

That is great news!! :D

If it helps, 30mg of citalopram made a huge impact on my recovery, although you definitely, definitely need other therapy as well. I'd recommend that when going onto citalopram (or any other medication), people get as much support as they can.
