So I am going in for a long awaited operation to have a cyst removed from neck on Tuesday, I am going to be put to sleep and told it will last around 2 hours.

I have felt ok about it but now it’s getting very close the anxiety is kicking in.

I have gone from thoughts to not waking up, finding something sinister etc the list goes on!

Has anyone got any tips on how to deal with this!

I had a big surgery two years ago and the anxiety was almost unbearable leading up to it!! So, I feel you. I’ll say that anticipatory anxiety is so horrible and anything you can imagine is worse than reality.

I spent weeks and weeks panicking and then everything went perfectly fine! I had a 6 hour robotic hysterectomy for massive fibroids. It was a super complex surgery and I can out just fine!

I’d suggest being candid with your surgeon about your worries. I was upfront with mine and she was very supportive and then the day of they gave me something for the anxiety before taking me back to the OR. It made all the difference!

Good luck!
