So it will be time for my annual eye doctor appointment pretty soon. I'm pretty worried though because last time went my eye pressures were 25 and 27. I was a bit anxious already due to some trouble with the Optomap, and that sent me right through the roof. They did do it will a handheld air puff tonometer though, and I'm not sure how accurate that would be. Previously I was measured on the same machine and my results were 19 and 22-23 (probably also anxious then). Before that I was only measured on the tabletop machines and never had a problem. The Opto said it was likely just anxiety though and that my optic nerve looked fine on imaging. My eyes were also pretty dry that day and that was before I knew not to rub them. I'm 27 with no family history. M y only possible risk factor is being on 150 mg sertraline for years, but even that doesn't have much of a provable link with the increased IOP involved in open angle glaucoma.

I'm mostly scared of having to take the beta blockers, especially because they can cause nightmares.

Do you hold your breath whilst they are doing the eye puffer pressure check? It's a natural reaction, but it immediately raises the pressure reading. This happened to me during an eye exam, and the optician asked me to breathe normally whilst they repeated it. I did so, and the second reading was normal.
Even if your pressure readings are on the high side, it can be easily treated. My Mum had glaucoma, and my sister has pre-glaucoma. Both well controlled, simply with daily eye drops. Whether you have high pressure or not, it's okay. You're going to be okay. Xx

Glaucoma runs in my family (grand father) and it is one of my recent worries. I had the appearance of floaters these past few months and I got worried sick.

I went to two ophthalmologists (one retina specialist and one glaucoma specialist) who tested me for glaucoma and everything was ok. My IOP was normal. I only had a big optic nerve (which still kinda bugs me). Docs said I should just do repeat tests every one or two years since it runs in the family.

Just hang in there. Have you had a glaucoma screening? That would be more accurate and give you a better assessment.
