hey pips,
I've just been put on medication for my panic attacks and am suffering from the side effects at the moment.
I've woken up during the night since I've taken them and there's always a twinge of worry before I take it but I keep telling myself the same thing:

these pills will help :)

my mum has been on blood pressure tablets for a couple of years and it's the same with all medication. if there are side effects, they are temporary and they will pass.:yesyes:

just go about your normal pre meds routine and remember that it's all to help you. then take the pill and a huge glass of water and wash it down.

be brave and let us know how you get on

Rock on

Anthony

Hi Pippa,

I was on Rampril 10mg for about ten months.I did experience some unwelcome side-effects with them.Eventually my wife suggested I see my Doctor.I changed meds about 4 weeks ago and the side-effects have disappeared.
Do keep a close eye out for the side-effects but don't stop taking BP meds without a Doctor's O.K.
Meds are a very individual thing and sometimes it takes a bit of tweaking to find the best for you.
Best wishes,
Chalky

hi - if you read the side effects for a paracetamol or aspirin - they are just as scary but we never worry about drugs like that because they are so common. i would take them but if you feel you are having side effects - check with yourr gp or pharmacist - they can always be changed to one that suits you. its a case of weighing up the risks of high bp against the risks of side effects - i am sure you will have no problems. have you tried the diet/exercise approach? my mum refused to take meds (she's not phobic of them - just feels if its not absolutely necessary she doesn;t want drugs in her body) when she had several high readings and she is fine again now. i think she drank soya milk, cut out treats and did more exercise and her readings came down.

I'm forever watching what I eat only allowing the occassional treat and I exercise when i can unfortunately due to torn muscles in my feet tis difficult to do vigorous exercise though. I'm glad that your mums sorted now Joanna. We have got a very high risk on heart disease in our family to unfortuntely.:weep:

Pips

I am on Perindopril/Coversyl for high blood pressure but I had to try a few before I settled on this one.

Don't want to worry you but they don't suit everyone and the 1st one I was on made me breathless and the 2nd one I was so dizzy on.

You may need to try a few before you settle on one.

Just monitor the side effects and if you can't tolerate them then see doc and get them changed.

My worst symptom was dizziness and feeling faint but that passed.

These are quite serious drugs so you need to settle on one and feel ok on it like I am now

Good luck

Hi Pips, you said it in one,, you should not of read side effect sheet. Temptation wins though.
You will soon know if they are not for you, yes it may take you a few differrent ones or this could be the one, the affects of not reducing your blood pressure is a lot more dangerous though, so monitor and report, take care, try to enjoy Chyristmas witrhout too much worry.xxxxx

Pips many many people have to take tablets for high blood pressure - it's sooooo sooooo common.

I guess the trick is finding the exact right one for you - so don't be scared, just trial them out for you then you know you've got the one that suits you without side effects.

On the exercise front - is it possible to swim at all. Course you know my favourite exercise is yoga (of which I havent done any in ages incase you are thinking how disciplined I am lol) and using my small rebounder. I get worried too these days with not getting out and about enough that I am not getting enough exercise - but if you could walk on your rebounder gently that would help and not be so hard on the feet and joints.

Happy Xmas hun.
