Hi all,

I suffer all the time with hyperventilation but sometimes I also get chest pains more often than not on my left side. Is this usually caused by all the pressure due to the gulping for air? is it a sign of indigestion? or IBS? Any thoughts anyone? Also sometimes it feels like my sternum cracks while having one of these episodes. Should I go to my GP?

Thanks
C

hi carl,

I used to get really bad pain in my chest, i thought i was having a heart attack or something as this was my biggest fear, but it was just because i was so tense and all my muscles were that tensed up that it caused pain in my chest area. its more than likely because of the way you are breathing.

if you are at all concerned though have a word with your doctor

take care

ruth

I agree- I have hyperventilated for over 20 years and am asthmatic and I know the pain in my ribs and chest is when you tense the intercostal muscles between each rib as you are overstretching them by over breathing. If you keep telling yourself that you will soon forgot it and notice it stops hurting so much. Love wenjoy xxx
