Anything that causes fear registers in your mind, and then continually acts like a sentinel - always there at the back of your mind, reminding you of your fear. Depression is no different. The more you fear depression, the longer it lasts, and as soon as you forget about being frightened of it, it can start to recede. I'm on about anxiety related depression here, not a valid depression caused by some awful event, which is natural to have.
