hi
im 23 and have a vomit phobia, it ruins my life and nearly cost me my life last year.

Well ive been offered the chance of free Hypnotherapy treatment. Its not on the NHS but at a training college( http://www.lesserian.co.uk/ ). The qualified hypnotherapists will do the treating.
the success rate is 91%.
What do you think

Hi CC

I don't have this myself, but there has been quite a few posts on it recently. Try putting emetophobia (the medical term - I think that's spelt correctly) into the search function and quite a few should come up.

And welcome to the site :D

Good luck

Hi CC

Welcome to the forum.

Lots of people with phobias are helped with hypnotherapy. The decision is yours whether to go for it, however have you got anything to lose? The fact that you have been offered it for free is a bonus.

Hi CC,

Welcome to the site,

I agree with everyone else, go for it.
There is a path we all have to take to make us feel better,
finding the right path is the hardest, this might be the right
path for you. You have nothing to lose and if it works ALOT
to gain.

TAKE CARE LOVE JILLXX

Great changes may not happen right away,
but with effort the difficult may become esay.

im scared

my phobia bars me from leaving the house. the only time i go out is to go to the doctors/psychiatrists.

its sat/sun throughout april and one weekend in may

Meg

Well , its always the things people don't mention up front on here that turn out to be the crucial bit !

OK - it'll be hard for you but if you could see it as an extension of doctors/ psychiatrists visits. It will be a challenge and is a great oportunity . The person you're visiting does understand your phobia so if you turn up ina state that will be fine.
Also , it gives you a month to really intensively self help and get used to starting to go out and build your confidence meanwhile.

for some inspiration on agoraphobia check out Maxines post in Misc and take on board some of the advice in

I am sure you can get there in April with some support and advice from us here.

What specifically stops you going out?

CC,

Just wondering how far you would have to travel for this treatment and how you would be getting there.

Driven by someone; taxi; bus or what?

You really ought to see this as an extension of the doctors and so on. Its so easy to think they'll look down on you, as that's how most non-health professionals may see you, or at least YOU think so.

You should not have any hangups about what the specialist may think. The chances are that they have seen people just like you loads of times before, and people far worse than you many times too.

Of course, you don't know that, because you never meet them.

Also remember, that even everyday souls may have some kind of understaning too - more than you think - but its not talked about.

Check out locally to see if there's any kind of 'general care' group in your area - they may be able to give you a lift there, perhaps for a small donation.

One started up in my neighbourhood last year and used them for a short trip to the doctors - the driver was very understanding.

Ask at your town's library, advice centre, or Citizens Advice Bureau to see if there is this help.

ill be taken by car. the college is about 15 mins away

the thing that stops me is thear of being sick out of the house. i tend to get het up which causes me to feel unwell thus making my fear stronger.
i just cant bear the idea of being sick. im not scared of open spaces or being around people. im just really scared that when im being treated ill have to talk in detail about you know what. it scares me.

i feel so daft as a 23 year old man saying this

nomorepanic

But once you get there they will fully understand and will address these worries with you.

If you don't try then you will never know whether it will help you or not.

You won't have to talk in detail about it, they will just talk to you about why you feel like that and offer suggestions for help.

You can do it - you need to do it .

Hi there

OK so this isn't going to be easy but how much would you like NOT to feel how you do at the moment? Its going to take courage but you know its the right thing to do, you're trapped by your fear at the moment and here is the chance of freedom - grab it with both hands. These people will be very experienced in dealing with fears like yours and they won't force you to talk about anything that you feel really uncomfortable with. They will also try very hard to help you feel at ease once you arrive for therapy.

Good luck - go for it;)

Hi CC

Good luck for tomorrow. From the sounds of it all is positive. Am sure that you wont feel sick with the treatment. It is all about relaxation and that is a good thing. it is natural to get anxious talking about it as it is your phobia but once they find the trigger they can treat it. And at the end of it you will be free with any luck permanently.
Anyway good luck and look forward to some positive feedback.
Take care

Janine

Well done for going and well done for allowing them to try to help you by relaxaing and being open to the new treatment..

Write down the experience so if you get nervous again about going you will be able to relive the good experience.
