I wish to tell everyone how helpful Tai Chi has been for my anxiety and depression and panic attacks.
I started going to a beginners class 2 hours a week and found that in those 2 hours I didnt panic or feel bad. I kept going and began to feel better for longer periods.
The moves that I can do at home always make me feel better regardless of how long I spend doing them.

Now, when I get that muscle tension, I do some tai chi and get relief.
Hope this is helpful.

My therapist recomended I take up Tai Chi or Pilates so I've got some books from the Library but find them hard to follow, I couldn't see anywhere near me that does classes, but I thought about getting a DVD so I could follow that.
Any recomendations ?

I have found qugong really helpful for reducing anxiety levels, and helping stiff / achy joints, and I'm Dyspraxic, but can still do the exercises OK.

(Qigong is what T'ai Chi is based on)

I hope to do either qigong or t'ai chi this year again, as it worked so well last time.

Best wishes

Robin

health benefits

An effective way of restoring and maintaining natural health
http://www.taoist.org.uk/images/Healthbenefits1-wee.jpgIt is designed to promote health and well-being for people of all ages and in all health conditions.
This art has became a very special and effective form of holistic health training, one that can work on the physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of our being. Consisting of a gentle set of 108 movements, plus associated exercises and training methods, the Taoist Tai Chi† internal art of taijiquan is distinguished at the physical level by a significant degree of turning and stretching in each of the movements, in order to exercise the whole physiology.
At the mental and spiritual level, it is a method of ‘taming the heart’ and developing an attitude of calm, compassion and reduced self-centredness during practice and in daily life. This aspect is cultivated in particular through the International Taoist Tai Chi Society’s volunteer ethos.
What are the benefits?
The benefits include: improved circulation, balance and posture; increased strength and flexibility; and reduced stress. With regular practice, the Taoist Tai Chi† internal art of taijiquan reaches deep inside the body to benefit the entire physiology including the tendons, joints, spine, connective tissue and internal organs. It restores the calmness and peace of mind that is often lost through the desires and anxieties of daily life.
Although not a substitute for medical treatment, the taijiquan that we offer can help to improve a wide range of health problems such as poor circulation, high blood pressure, arthritis, back pain, joint immobilities, respiratory problems, digestive disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and others.
Improving the health of all ages and abilities
http://www.taoist.org.uk/images/Healthbenefits3-wee.jpg People of all ages can learn and benefit from the gentle turning and stretching movements of Taoist Tai Chi† internal arts and methods, and the form can be adapted to match any level of ability. It is a self-regulated form of exercise that lends itself to the needs of all participants. Seniors are offered special discounted membership dues and young and old alike enjoy the friendly and welcoming nature of the Society.
