I wanted to start this poll to find out how many of us spend large parts of the day searching for answers, whether it is on the internet or visiting a specialist. This was on the back of another post with reference to Dr Google.

I want to find out what lengths or measures we will go to trying to find the right answers.

I suffer from health related anxiety and find myself constantly wanting to find answers.

I dont think this is confined to health anxiety - not for me personally anyway. I spend quite a lot of my time trying to the find the answer to the way I feel mentally. For some reason I expect other people to know and get frustrated when they cannot tell me or they do not understand where I am coming from.

I also find I am searching for something....perfection maybe. Although I wouldnt know perfection if it bit me on the bum! What is perfection anyway? I know for a fact NO ONE is perfect, and yet I aspire to be. I know I cannot be "perfect" and just saying that to myself makes me fill up with tears.

I went through a period of suffering with health anxiety but it seems to have mostly gone now.

I'm not saying that the worrying about health is trivial, as I have been there. But do you think it is all about the health, or is there something about all the searching for symptoms, confirmation etc?

All of the above for me. I gave up looking when I realized it didn't help much and it just made my GP think I was more crazy. But not looking anymore makes me feel broken and lonely. Not sure on which path to take. :weep:

Hi, I mainly use books, Claire Weekes is my favourite as she is so down to earth, and as it was written a few years ago (sadly Claire died in 1990) it uses the older tried and tested techniques.

It was once suggested to me though to try 1 thing at a time, and consentrate on that and not think after a couple of weeks, this isnt working ! How long does it take to learn to drive or ride a bike !!

If we try 1 thing at once we are also not confusing ourselves either, I know I used to be the worse for this, and because anxiety is involved we are also not always thinking as rationaly as usual.

It took me many months to master the art of relaxation, but now I can zone in quite easily.

Good look with whichever method you choose, but persevere, and the rewards will be found !!

Take care Christine. xx :flowers:

I use Dr Google :lac: :weep: and also discussions with my family (my brother also suffers with health anxiety). We have spent many afternoons comparing our "symptoms" and "illnesses"

Each time I "get over" an illness, I swear I wont google, but when something else rears its ugly head then I get back on the computer. It's really bad and I tell everyone else not to do it but I just cant help it sometimes  It's so bad for me, especially when you google late at night and you're on your own
