Hi,
I just got back from a quick vacation with Hubby to Las Vegas. I really did not want to go as it is not a place I really like as I do not gamble and I hate to fly but I went because I needed a break and hubby wanted me to go. Well, I survived the flight and barely held on during the taxi ride to the hotel.
We stayed on the 8th floor at Cesars Palace. The 2nd morning there Hubby went in to use the toilet and I was still in bed. All of a sudden a siren started going off in the room. My first honest thought was "Oh my Lord what has hubby set off now in the bathroom," but then an invisible intercom in the room started stating to evacuate the hotel immediately. Then I knew what was going on and my heart dropped, there was a fire in the hotel.
I jumped out of bed, got dressed and grabbed my purse and we ran down 8 flights of stairs then had to go down more (seemed like forever) for the conference room floors and such till we hit ground level. We were not alone, many panic driven people were running down the stairs too.
Once we got outside and got to the front of the hotel we saw the fire engine trucks. After 2 1/2 hours we re-entered the casino and apparently no-one in the casino even knew what had been going on! I looked and saw that some poor girls had been so scared they were still dressed in their pajamas, some just had sheets draped around them and their hair was all over the place. What a site!
I do have a point here somewhere. Other than flying, heights and driving over bridges, hotel fires are right up their causing huge anxiety for me. I never like to stay up high when I am in one. Now the worst has happened and I survived, and I didn't panic. :yesyes: I got out of that hotel without running and screaming like a madwoman, pulling out my hair - "The end is coming, the end is coming." I must say I'm quite proud of myself. :D
Returning to our room the corridor was still full of smoke. Someone had thrown something on fire down the laundry shute. I even slept that night without nightmares.
I do think all of us can do the what we perceive as the impossible when faced with it. I just hope I am never faced with anything for awhile again, lol. I was lucky in one way, I could have been on the 21st floor and had to run down all of those stairs...
Love,
Laura
