View Full Version : Update on my breast lump

Hi Guys.

Well went along yesterday to see the consultant who examined me. Explained that he didn't think my lump was anything nasty but agreed that I was quite lumpy but explained that my breasts were probably quite fibrocystic and as I'm 40 now, my breasts will probably develop cysts (which is all perfectly normal). He wants me to take evening primrose oil in order to help the breast tissue in later years.

I then went off and had a mammogram - that turned out ok, then I went off for my ultrasound. The radiologist identified my lump as a cyst saying it was just under 2cm. She was spending a bit of time examining this area so I asked if everything was ok. She said there was something deeper in the breast tissue but it seemed/appeared benign.

At the end of it all I asked if there was anything horrible going on and she replied that from what she saw, things look ok and anything she did see appeared benign. She was going to write up her report and send it on to the consultant.

Do you think I'm OK? Perhaps I'm reading too much into what she said. For example saying "seem" and "appears" has got me worrying. They aren't definite words are they? or is my anxiety just running away with me again.

I'm sort of spending my time now just waiting for a call. IF there was anything to be concerned about, do you think she would've said so? My health anxiety is telling me that perhaps if there is any bad news, she'll put it in her report to the consultant and let him tell me. See? My mind is running away with me

My husband said I should relax and let it go now and if there was anything horrible then she would've told me instead.

Please help. Instead of worrying about the appointment and what they might find I'm now worrying after the appointment arhhhhh! It drives me mad sometimes

Hi Amanda, I thinks it’s because we spend so long worrying about things that when you’re told things are ok you don’t quite believe them because it cant be that simple. I suppose because our minds are on this negative journey from the time you are referred through to your appointment, that it needs some time to readjust and accept that perhaps things can be ok and it’s time to stop worrying. But easier said than done eh?

Hi Jenny,
Just wanted to try and put your mind at rest a little, my mum found a "lump" a few years back and as you went through the mammogram, ultrasounds etc however please let me try and reassure you that the specialists do act very quickly if they think the lump is suspicious in any way.
IF in my experience with my mum they were concerned in anyway they would have done biopsies there and then my dear.
Please try and take some reassurance that the specialists really do KNOW what they are doing with regards to breast lumps nowadays.
Just also wanted to send you some hugs for what must have been a horrible day for you to put it mildly :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:
Brightest Angel Blessings

really glad everything looked ok! I think the docs have to say things like appears and seems because we could sue their bums off if it weren't for some reason. Not saying it's not ok but I think doctors/specialists have programmed themselves not to give definit answers. I know sometimes in my line of work I can't or it could be taken the wrong way and land me in a spot of bother.

Take this opertunity to relax and enjoy the good news :)

Take care,
Janie

usually if they still have a small amount of doubt they then do the needle test , usually there and then (as in my case) . So I imagine your ok ,
cos they usually rush you thru if they are concerned.

take care

Glad everything turned out ok, and sorry that you are still worrying.

Its the nature of the doctors that they cant say 100%, but from what you have said there appears to be nothing there to worry about. I was exactly like you he words I wanted to here were, we are positive its nothing, I am certain its going to be ok. I just spent a few weeks getting used to being ok.

I hope you manage to accept what they have said and start to feel better about it all soon.
