When we sleep our subconcious trawls through events and reactions and when we dream it often makes up its own scenarios to complete a circle of thought.

If you are having a very stressful time and are anxious it is quite common too for the body to filter through all of it at night and not do the normal sleep cycle throuigh drems and non dream sleep and responds just as it would to similar scary thoughts during the day and thus may panic.
