I do this sometimes and have done for ever. I seem to get it alot for a week or so then nothing for months. I can be sitting doing nothing, not swallowing or talking or eating etc and suddenly I choke as if something has gone down the wrong way - can't catch my breath and cough really hard and feel very very lightheaded. Its as if I am choking on my own saliva.

Does anyone else get this.. I have had an endoscopy so know noting in throat and as I said i have had it on and off for about 20 years but just intereseted to know if anyone else does it asits a bit scary at the time.

Hello... I learned that when that happens it is your throat muscles tighening, NOT closing and that mucous does surround your throat. It wont kill your or harm you just scare you. Take some deep breathes and it will usually go away. Hope this helps...Take care
