hi there i am new to this site after, finally, after 34 years accepting i need to sort out these naughty phobias and panics in my life !!
I have been experiencing panic attacks from the age of seven with a period of school phobia which lead to social phobia and anxiety with a healthy dose of agaraphobia thrown in for good measure as i have got older !! initially i put it down to a more than traumatic childhood but have now realised that it is also genetic as my mother and grandmother both suffered! My seven year old son has always been sensitive but has now developed a school phobia which upsets me to the core.
My main symtoms are a real fear of fainting and or throwing up in public and when out i feel it coming on hot sweats giddiness and nausea which make me want to run and hide,I keep it all to myself and it is hard work to live with it !i am sad and cross with myself as i know thre is a much braver me that wants to do exciting things climb up a mountain ,go travelling and other daring things !!

Hello Tracyjane:welcome: to you!

Wow, you got determination and motivation - you can't lose!

I've managed to travel, go up mountains (little ones lol) and even down mineshafts:wacko: .....a lot of it due to the support I've had from this site!

You may be right about the tendency towards anxiety being in the genes...my mum also has had agrophobia and a few others since I was little, but I don't think we should worry there's any direct link. I have three daughters and, as far as I know, they don't suffer.

Anyway, you'll find plenty of help and support here - loads of info if you follow the links on the left of the page.

Pleased to meet you!

Hi Tracyjane,

Welcome to the site. You will meet many here who feel like you do and will get tons of support. Many feel that anxiety and/or depression are genetic and some of us are predisposed. All I know is I have had anxiety since I was very very young. I know you will like it here.

Hugs,

Laura

:yesyes: hi traceyjane, as the others have said you are doing soooo well dealing with all of this poo for so long! its never ever too late to recover and you will do more than you are doing now - maybe some things never but so what you can enjoy your life doing other things, we put pressure on ourselves to be having fun and doing fantastically fun things. anyway i wont rant on about that:blush: i also want to just add that from what ive read there is no evidence to say that these issues are hereditary - more likely we pick up behaviour and opinions from those around us, as im also the child of a 'nerve' sufferer. but i had 2 sisters and they arent affected because i was the focus of my mums concerns being a whingy, clingy child. if we believe we are pre-destined by our genes to be like this we are less likely to recover, because we dont believe we can change. if you look at it that you just picked this behaviour up then you have the power to realise the true you:yesyes: bear in mind there is still no concrete evidence as to what causes anxiety disorders. i hope you get alot out of nmp and take care emma:flowers:

Hi Tracyjane and :welcome:

You'll get loads of advice and support here while making new friends along the way. My anxiety has centred largely on a fear of being sick in public too so you aren't alone and I can really empathise. :hugs:
