Hi Popsy, how are you this afternoon :)

Altho I could tick all the options, I only actually ticked two - Anti depressants and forums like this.

Without the ADs I didnt have the courage or bravery to take those first baby steps, I just wasnt strong enough - and to the doctor whoconvinced me to at least try them, I will be forever grateful.

The second tick was for Forums such as NMP - I wish I'd found something like this 20 odd years ago when my first panic attack attacked lol. Just finding a place where all the information is there for you, as well as meeting people who have and are going thro the same things, has been a life saver.

Take care :hugs:

Hi all :) ,

I found a combination of counselling ( one on one ) , medication, relaxation , and the information and support of this board give me a great deal of relief.

Am I cured ?...no , not yet...will I ever be  who knows.

I do know that all of the above has worked on some level and I have found some relief :yesyes:.

Baby steps everyday :)

Just had reflexology with a man who specialises in anxiety/panic and i feel lovely....apparently a therapy called EFT can be used in conjunction with it which is meant to be excellent for dealing with panic / anxiety which i am going to look into too :)

I have Been trying meditation for the past couple of months, and have found it to be highly effective.

It's kind of hard to get the knack, and I don't think I'm all the way there yet, but I do find that it tends to stop your thoughts leaping about all over the place, which is half the problem!

The greatest help for me has been education and understanding.

After so many years, I now find myself fairly successful at not reacting in a negative way (second fear) to the emotional and physical feelings. Hence, my overall level of background anxiety has become lowered, and the occasional true panic attack has become shorter-lived when it happens.

That being said, I would be less than honest if I said that it was easy to pass through a panic attack and just let it run its course. It still can be somewhat terrifying at its peak, and very unpleasant in its aftermath (the residual effects can last for several days).

But I live with it just as anyone eventually learns to live with anything. I stay thankful for the things that I do have. A beautiful day with anxiety is still better than not having the day at all.

I had the most help from an ICSW worker once a week(intensive community support worker) he got me on a woodwork course at the local day hospital.
Some weeks at the woodwork I felt pretty good then other weeks I would really panic, but I kept attending(even after a bad panic) + I had the ICSW worker work with me one day a week.
I really did make progress and my confidence improved alot! that was until the local health authority shut down the woodwork class. (to save money)

The medication (prozac) has levelled out my mood and made me feel less anxious, then when I was ready, the CBT helped me think logically about my thought processes.

Don't know if I've posted here or not? Anyway, what as helped me the most is learning about myself, my mind, and learning how to be in control of myself.

So far medication but I have just started having regular massages, and seeing a naturopath who is giving me weekly acupuncture and vitman B12 injections to help with the anxiety. The massage helps alot and I will update on the rest after I have been treated!

I think the only thing that has helped me is finding this site and meeting others who have shared their experiences and made me realise that I wasn't alone in my suffering. Reading all these posts helped me to make sense of things and helped me to turn my life around.

Unfortunately I didn't find a very supportive doctor and medication wasn't for me so I don't know where I would be if I hadn't found you lot on here.

My Osteopath.

She has helped get my adrenal glands functioning ok and really helped me with diet and rational thought techniques.

I never thought an Osteopath could help for panic but she made huge inroads for my anxiety.

I've had councelling but it didn't really help, i mean it made me realise why i might have them but it didn't help to deal with them. Breathing techniques really help me when they come on. Although, (an option that wasn't there) goin to the gym has helped me the most, going 3 times a week actually prevents them happening.

looking at the polls there are many who have chosen group counselling, is this because haven't attend such a group because of fears or is it that they don't enjoy them. I will admit that when i attend a group for 8 weeks i was very anxious the first few times and you could tell evryone else was but near the end of the group none of us wanted it to finish i was extremely helpful and everyone had bonded.

No medication in almost a month, feels better when I talk to others who also experience PAs.
