Hello Everyone,

Two months ago, i had an MRI scan because i was very scared at the thought i might have a brain tumor (blurred vision, headaches etc)
I kept saying as soon as i have this scan and its clear, i will forget about it and move on. It was clear- but i havent moved on. I went to the doctors again 2 weeks ago and asked for another one. He said no! I am paranoid something has formed in that time, i just think they wont do it coz they are too expensive. I keep seeing things flash in the corners of my eyes, i am very dizzy all the time. I am also scared now coz someone said if i keep convincing myself i have a tumor, then i will get one. All this worry is causing me to lose so much weight and also my hair is coming out. Today someone at work just mentioned the word 'brain tumor' and i instantly tuned in and completely shut down. I couldnt eat, couldnt work, couldnt talk got pins and needles (another symptom of a brain tumor). My doc is sure its anxiety. I just dont know what its gonna take for me to get better

Of course you won't get a tumour if you convince yourself you've got one!! What kind of ridiculous thing is that to say?! I think if your MRI was clear then your symptoms are most likely anxiety related. I know how it feels to be so convinced you've got something, it's terrifying and annoying at the same time!! Just try to deflect your attention elsewhere and STAY AWAY FROM GOOGLE!!

But talking of google, every single symptom of every single disease could be related to other diseases. You could just have the common cold but if you googled the symptoms it would come up with some other deadly disease. Please try to keep this in mind.

Please ,please, be reassured about your scan. YOU DO NOT HAVE A BRAIN TUMOUR. MRI scans are very effective at picking up even the smallest of growths, they did not find this. Your symptoms are continuing and yes, it may feel as though they are getting worse, but they are just an expression of your anxiety ,not of a tumour in your brain. Remember you had these symptons before the scan also.
Re read all the physical symptoms anxiety creates again and you will find that all you have are in that list. I know how difficult it can be to have faith in your own body and in the medical tests we have done in order to reassure ourselves. However, we so need to get that faith from within ourselves somehow. This way of getting faith is different for everyone. But i find that i need to really learn to change my self talk. To do my relaxation everyday.
At the moment you sound as though you are really scared of the feelings of the anxiety. It is understandable. They Are frightning when you are feeling very fragile.
BUT remember, it is anxiety, not a brain tumour...
I hope that your day will improve...

I agree with charlotte, not much of a friend if thats what they said to you, sorry  !! I can only relate to this feeling you have with my heart. Meaning alot of us with palpitation, ectopics etc, have a problem accepting that theres nothing wrong with our hearts, in much the same way as you have with your brain. We've spent many years seeking help for our heart problems, had many tests, alot of the time negative..ok most of the time negative, but still we believe that the specialists have missed something, thats the nature of the beast. When we all consider how long we've let this 'thing' control our lives, our rational selves know that its crazy, but what the docs don't realise is how powerful the effects of anxiety are. What they also don't realise is that far from the weak people that might consider us to be, how strong we really are..how much courage we really have. Do any of them really know what it costs us to live in the shadow of this? I doubt it. We are stronger than we know, and we DO have so much courage, never forget that:)
Regards, Cathy xx

You must take comfort in the fact that MRI's are very accurate and if there was ANY chance of anything abnormal, you'd be back in a shot. Thing is we get ourselves so worked up preparing for these tests and going through them that when it's over, our brain is still working overdrive and needs to come back down to earth, which does take time. A couple of years I'd convinced myself (through Dr Google of course :lac: ) that I had MS and wanted an MRI. The results were clear (of course) but for weeks aftewards, I was so sure that they had made a mistake and missed something. I think this is a very normal human process we go through so just give yourself time and relax - your results are CLEAR :D

I keep seeing things flash in the corners of my eyes, i am very dizzy all the time.

Are you sure this isn't a form of a migrane headache?

Migranes don’t always mean headaches and pain. They can just be weird sensations with your eyes/vision. I used to get spots/funny patterns out of the corners of my eyes and sometimes lose part of my vision - really, really scary but they were all migranes though. Thinking about it now, I grew up with this and not once was I ever referred for an MRI scan – funny how things change when we get older and more knowledgeable (for the worse) :weep:

Thank you everyone
My doctor did suggest migraine but ive had a headache just about everyday for about 3 months. The doctor is now saying tension headache. The pins and needles is a new symptom which is why i am worrying again. I keep saying 'if i am no worse in 2 weeks i will stop worrying' but it never works, those 2 weeks just come round so fast.

You cannot talk yourself into having a brain tumour the person who said that deserves a slap.

My best friend gets the most horrendous headaches for at least two days a week every week (migraine), she could write a book on headaches. I on the other hand very rarely get them and I have a brain tumour.

Mine was found by accident in December (I had a MRI because I was getting tinnitus) they couldn't find the cause of it but found the tumour instead.

Let me tell you if you had a tumour it would show up on the films from the MRI, mine stood out like a beacon (it was so bright from the dye etc that it could have warned ships at sea).

So don't worry if it was there they would have seen it. I have another MRI in June to see if it has grown fingers crossed it hasn't.
