I have seen a marked improvement in my own panic attacks/agoraphobia over the last 4 months and I can relate this improvement to a couple of things. The main thing has been my faith In God and a real living relationship with Jesus. I have gone from someone that could not go out or even at best far from my home to someone that can live alone, go out, drive and live a normal life again.
I know that so many of us at one point or another shout out "God HELP ME!" but thats as far as it goes. We may even scream at God and ask "why me why do I suffer"?

Now there are 100s of self-help books and 100s of people willing to sell us the lasted new super sort all our problems in one easy step but at a cost and lets be honest, 99% of the time they dont work. Yet I am living proof that if you have faith God can work miricles:yahoo:

So how do we get faith?

Well the only way is to ask for it and to read the Bible. Yes it is as simple as that and it cost nothing. I would also suggest that you find a good church because I promise you will find so many understanding people there who will be more than willing to support you and even bring you along to church if you cant travel.

I would not advise anyone to come off any medication because I know many Christians that are still on medication for many things but God has blessed them in their conditions.

I must state that I cannot promise God will heal you overnight but I can promise you that as you grow in your faith and relationship with God, you will soon see a marked improvement in how you feel.

Find a good church
Speak to the pastor minister priest
You will meet a GREAT bunch of people that will support you and be there for you.:bighug1:

But I have a word of warning for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you do this your life will change for the better:yahoo:

If you want prayed for then please pm me and I will have my church pray for you..I promise not to give anyone else details of who has asked for prayer. In fact I dont even need to know what you suffer from.
My church will just pray that God blesses your life.

Give it a go:flowers:

Hi Purplehaze,:yesyes:

I too believe in God and that having faith will help us.

A great passage I have read is Mathew 6 verses 25-34. Do not worry it tells you and if my worry gets out of hand I just reach for my bible and read this and it gives me peace!

Take Care God Bless

Hi Hazel,
Yea, it does it for me to.
Decca.

Matthew 6:25-34
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing,

29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.
30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6:25+-+34&version=51;#fen-NLT-23291a)] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Hi

Yeah I agree and the power of prayer is AMAZING and does work. I want to thank those who have asked for prayer because I know how difficult a step that has been and so many have asked. Myself and my church will keep on praying for each one of you. Again if anyone wants prayer support please just pm me.

Funny that.

I used to be religious, then I read the Bible.

The book of Proverbs was what did it for me, I'm afraid.

I honestly think that suggesting that everyone afflicted by his condition can just read a book and be healed is an insult to a lot of people on here.

I've been to Lourdes many years ago and and to see so many people who were so strong in their belief that a miracle could happen for them was amazing.
There have been unexplained cures/miracles at Lourdes without a doubt. Whether this is due to faith or something else, we cannot really know for sure.
I'm playing devil's advocate here honestly, but if if the miracles at Lourdes are purely down to faith, why do so many people not receive a cure? Are they not faithful enough? What about children with illnesses?
I'm not knocking anyones beliefs but I can understand why some may have doubts.

The whole point of this thread was to offer prayer support for those who wanted it and many have asked for prayer support. This was not meant to be a debate on who gets cured or a measure of an individuals faith. This is purely an offer of prayer support which I do believe can be a great support to people.
I know many have their doubts but why attack something that is geniune in the offer and seeking only to help others. If any individual does not want the prayer support or believe in it then please dont be negative towards a thread thats here for genuine reasons.
At no point have I pushed religion or a certain faith, all I have done is offered prayer support and if some feel its what they want then surely we can accept their choice in this matter.
I hope people can see the positive nature of this thread and what if those who are being prayed for show a change in how they feel, will this thread still be attacked.
We are all here to support each other and thats what this site is all about.

religion causes more problems than it solves
but that is just my opinion

Not sure why there even has to be a debate.
If you don't believe in it then that is fine but why knock something that is working for others?
Touchy subject only if we make it so!

Faith is providing me with help during my illness. It also has led to some healing in relationships that I had not expected.

My particular religious denomination operates a message board that is accessed via the denominational web site. About a week and a half ago, I felt a keen sense to share the story of my struggle in that forum.

You must understand that my denomination has been going through quite a few shifts in thought the last thirty or so years and there have been some times in the ten year history of that board where some feelings were hurt, including mine. There are a few regular participants on that board that, frankly, I did not want to be aware of my illness.

Still, the nudge to share my story grew until I finally gave in and laid it all on the table. My post had not been up five minutes when I got a private message from one of the people I have not seen eye to eye with in times past. She was thanking me for the post, and went on to share details about a situation I will not get into. The upshot is that what I wrote helped her with a burden that day.

I also got private messages from several other church members at various places around the United States that are also suffering with anxiety/panic/agoraphobia. Some of them are also attempting to cope with depression at the same time. One mentioned he was having a really rough day and what I had written had helped him a great deal.

For my part, I felt relieved of a burden. If I had not been willing to look past my hesitation and share the details of my condition with others, I would not have received the words of comfort, fellowship, and encouragement that came to me that day.

Yes, there have been unspeakable atrocities conducted under the guise of religion. But at the same time, there are people of faith out there who are honestly trying to put the two great commandments into full use in their lives. While it is sometimes hard to tell one group from the other, it is definitely worth making the attempt from time to time.

I will take Claire weekes and exercise over God for coping with anxiety any day, just my preference.

I think peoples beliefs shouldnt be discussed as we all have our own and if you're confident in them theres not much that could persuade you otherwise.

I'm not religious in the slightest but I respect the beliefs of those that are and I expect the same in return

Please can we respect Purplehaze for his post and his outlook on things.

We don't need to agree but we also don't need to post and have a go.

Each to their own ok - please respect him and what has helped him

Thanks

Please can we respect the view of people who think some self help books are tremendous, and feel that pedaling religion as the cure to anxiety as misleading?

Thanks

Religion is an emotive subject and is bound to get opinionated replies.

It would be naieve to think otherwise.

Go for it Purple ........ whatever works for you is fantastic!

If you don't like this post then don't reply - just please don't reply having a go

No one is having a "go". I suggest people think carefully before posting.

The geezer gets comfort from religion, that's cool, but being told that self help is 99% useless? Do me a favour.

Human beings - unlike other animals, need to feel there is something much greater than themselves to rely on, and religion serves this purpose. It gives you purpose and direction in life. So I'm all for religion, even though I'm an atheist.
I guess when religion gets mixed up with politics, it's not doing itself any favours.

I've not witnessed anyone 'having a go' If having an opinion is seen as such then so be it.

Hi Purple,

It is great to hear that things are looking up for you hun, ohhh boy, I bet you feel soo happy.

I am open minded about god,but before I suffered pa.s high anxiety, there has only been one time before I called on him and that was when my 3 year old daughter suffered pa's, high anxiety, years later, I suffered them too, but you are soooo right, my first pa I was soooo scared and wanted it to fo away, I talked to god. I even at one point walked into a church to pray, not only for myself for but everyone on here. I was not just haveing pa's but living in fear 24/7, my anxiety levels where sooo high all the time. I felt like my world was turned upside down, when feeling like this you will try anything that will make you better, no matter what it is, nothing should be pushed to one side, because we don't know what works TILL we TRY IT.

I did however put my faith totaly in this great site, ohhh boy, IT NEVER let me down, I am panic, high anxiety free now, still have things to sort out, but manege my anxiety.

Learning about panic, anxiety and about myself is the hardest thing I have EVER had to do and still learning.

What I do know is, no matter what you put your faith in, weather it be god, your meds, your therapist and you beleaf that you will get better cos your faith will quid you, no matter what you have put your faith too, this sets a good foundation to getting better. Faith in something gives us hope courage to keep going, if we really really believe we will get better our minds find a way to do it, mmm this sounds esay BUT, I know its not, its bl**dy hard work and mind boggling learning about pa's, anxiety AND yourself.

Hun, your faith will take you where you want to be AND THAT IS feeling better.

WISHING YOU WELL

LOVE JILLXX

If stating what has helped you gets replies like these then what the hell is the point??

It's amazing that a post that was meant by the member who wrote it to share what has worked for them would turn into a debate!
Just pitiful!!!!!

Hi,

Can't believe some of the posts here. When I posted my reply it was to say that what I believe helps me. Everyone has their own feelings and belief systems which can be a whole range of things in society today, whether it it religion, CBT,football, music, internet etc. Everyone has a different thing that helps them to feel better about themselves. I think that Purplehaze was just expressing how he felt and that his faith in God has helped him. He was just wanting to help others by offering to pray for them and that is what some people find helpful.

Don't knock it everyone is entitled to have some sort of belief and we shouldn't be putting each other down we should say Well Done for you finding something that helps you!!!.

Sorry for rant but others say I read this book and it has cured me. I think this is just what he felt with his faith. Good Luck to you Purplehaze

Being an atheism does have it's benefits though. For instance. I'm an evolutionist, so I believe that humans have evolved just like any other animal. I also believe that we are just a biological machine. And like all machines, there are processes going on that can go wrong. Depression, panic, phobia's are all a result of faulty thinking. So if you apply the same logic to our minds as you would with a machine, you can then deduce the cause of the problem, and also the solution. It might sound a bit crazy to you, but these principles have definitely helped me cope with my life.
