Hiya Anna

Not sure what to do but have a go at the relaxation cds they teach you how to breathe properly, you can also get information in the claire weekes books or any books on anxiety that have a self help section.
Hope you feel better soon

Hi Anna
Ive got the tshirt on breathing problems, i havent got any tips on relaxation but what i find helps me when i get the problem is to keep busy to take your mind off your problem, i find getting stuck into a good book or a godd natter with someone really helps me. Let me know if you manage to get hold of a cure for it would you??

hello anna!! i have had EXACTLY the same problem for about five years now!!
i think it is the worst symptom of anxiety!! its almost like your suffocating, cant get a satisfying lung full of air! so constantly keep sighing and yawning to get more air in!! the way i cope is like polly, do a crossword or puzzle something that distract's your mind off the way your body is drawing your attention to the way its feeling, coz its just your nerves playing tricks on you!! have a go next time it happens! feel free to private message me if you want chick, hope ya feel better!!! xxx

I could have written this. The past few days I have had what I thought was indigestion. I get fed up cos every so often I'll have a bought of it for days. I am presuming it is indigestion but when I get it I feel like I can't breathe properly and I have been getting these flutterings/ catch in my throat which I didn't know could be because of the indigestion/reflux or whether they were plapitations (if they are they are different to the ones I used to get).

It is very hard to distract yourself from the pain of indigestion but I think it is usually because of tensing stomach muscles and if I can eventually relax them I do find the pain subsides slightly.

It worries me as well as someone said in passing to me that the first sign of a heart attack is indigestion pains, so I go into a vicious circle of whether it is actually indigestion?

I have the same problem with breathing. In fact, I've read that it's one of them most common symptoms of anxiety. When I'm panicky it always affects my breathing and I find myself gasping for air. If I go out (I'm agrophobic by the way) I feel so tense that my stomach muscles tighten up and of course that affects my breathing. It's an awful thing and I really do sympathise with you. I've got a relaxation CD which teaches you how to breath properly and relax and I find that does help.

Hi everyone

Thanks for replying. Its good to know other people have these symptoms. I find myself yawning in front of people just to try to get a full breath, then i get worried people think i find hem boreing. I hate these symptoms, i also find this the hardest to cope with. Its like being on a thin line i have to stop myself thinking about my breathing otherwise i find myself crossing over this line and end up haveing a panic attack.

Thanks

Anna xx

Me too - I yawn all the time and gulp for air and go red and dizzy. The weddings I went to a week ago I did this and had to sit through both weddings and have people look at me but when I stood up I couldnt breathe and wobbled!!! The breathing is worse that anything for me!
