I have always wanted to be really good at something, and having anxiety takes all your creativity away, I have to design things to teach in my class and I just think they are not good enough. I look at other poeples designs and think why can't I think of that It or how did they do that. It does'nt help when 1 of my students says she needs something exiting to do, so I take it that my stuff is not very exciting. Prehaps I am just being sorry for myself I just want to be good at something.:weep:
Sorry you all have more problems than me I am just being a woose.

Hey les, dont be too hard on yourself. Are you an art teacher? if so then you musz have loads of talent to get to where you are now...don't let the smart alecks in the class make you feel bad (and theres always some around to test you). Life cant be exciting every day, we have to learn to accept the boring bits too! If its really making you feel low and you really think you need to get improve on some areas of your work, maybe a summer seminar or something to give you fresh ideas, depending on how your anxiety is of course.

Sorry i dont know much about art, only that my son is a fantasy artist and wildlife artist (he designed the new logo for Dudley Zoo in the midlands and has also done work on movies in the states) and i know he sometimes hits a 'block' in much the same way as writers do. Im sure its that you're being overly critical of your work.

Artists eh?

Take care

Hello,
What subject do you teach ? I lecture applied mathematics at university - possibly one of the most mind numbing subjects unless you like maths and physics :)
What age group do you teach ? Let us know what tyoe of stuff you would like to come up with and we can have a brain storming session.

Hi Thanks for replies, I teach craft ,beadweaving, to adults. I have to say they can be more difficult than children at times, I know I am hard on my self and take things too personally. I feel daft now as this is such a stupid thing to stress over. I am taking a course in the autumn so hopefully this will give me a new direction, I feel in need of a challenge but the the anxiety takes hold and I can't come up with anything. Am just being negative at the moment must stop it.
Thanks again:hugs: :hugs:

I just want to be good at something.

People have skills in different fields. One of my brothers is a clever mathematician whilst the other is clever in artistry but my artistic brother stopped drawing because he said if he couldn't do it right then it wasn't worth doing. In my eyes though I always thought his drawings were brilliant so I admired him for his natural ability that I can only dream of.

We might not consider ourselves to be clever but there is always someone who has natural ability in another field who will admire someone for their creativity in their specialist field.

You may not think you're good at your ability but others are learning from you so you must be clever to be able to teach them and there are also others in other fields who would admire you for your natural ability...............so you Must be Good at what you do!:winks: :hugs:

Hi Lesley

Don't think you're whining. If its important to you then it is important and that's that. Trying to come up with new ideas constantly is not easy. I used to be a primary school teacher and often had difficulty thinking of new ways to present stuff so that it would be interesting.

Don't feel bad for moaning or feeling sorry for yourself (I'm becoming an expert at it). You are in touch with your feelings and caring about you and that is a good thing. Asking for some support and ideas from others is a great. Remember you are doing a difficult job but it is very worthwhile. I'm sure after the summer break and the input you get from your course you will be enthused again. Take care
