Has anyone else had this on citalopram??

Ive been on 20mg of citalopram for 2 days now, i take them at night to help me sleep and so that i dont suffer too bad with the side effects during the day. The first night i took it at 10 i woke at 2 my heart was rushing and i was spaced out and havin weird thoughts which i thought fine their common. But last night i woke again 4 hours later but i was really hot my stomach and my hands felt like they were on fire and all day today ive been getting sharp pains in my stomach. Has anyone else had this im worried about taking another one tonight and i cant talk to my gp till monday. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Hi there,
I have been taking citalopram for a while, and when I first started taking it I did notice I would awake in the night suddenly and feel really anxious. Its a pretty normal side effect and it will pass. My doc put me on a sleeping pill to take until I was able to sleep through the night. It worked great.

I only lasted 3 days as I was having similar side effects to you. My heart felt like it had stopped and I got strange sensations all over my body. Also I was yawning all the time and they were not like normal yawns, they would go on forever and relaly hurt my jaw!

the side effects last for a short time, on each dosage change, but the benefits out way the side effects for me

I was on citalopram for two years and suffered with the same side effects, but i agree with milly, the benefits out way the side effects after a while. xx

About 4 yrs ago i had exactly the same feelings! and it was also in the night after the second day of taking them! I stopped them immediately. They told me the side effects go after 2 weks, sorry but the way i felt that night, i wouldn't of been able to cope with that for 2 weeks! I have never heard anyone mention the burning sensation in hands and feet like i had, and i swear no one has ever understood what it was like and prob thought i was a wimp! The doc even suggested cutting the pills in half for a while. I was too scared to even do that! Another night like that i couldn't face. I never took any anti d's since.
