I've been lurking around for about a week and finally got the courage to join and say hello :)

I'm tasha and I'm 24 and live in London. I suffer from social phobia, general anxiety and occasional bouts of depression. I haven't worked in a year since I had a breakdown after graduating from university (that's the edited version, it's part of a much longer story!). I've recently tried to go back to work through volunteering but I found it too much to deal with. I sometimes have trouble going out so I tend to spend a lot of time at home. It's hard watching people I know getting on with their lives while I'm stuck in this situation.

I do try and remain positive and I'm currently in counselling which is going really well if progressing slowly! I've suffered from anxiety and depression nearly all my life so I guess there's quite a lot to work on! ;)

I don't have many friends because of my condition and find it hard to socialise. I'm glad I found this forum so that I can find friendship and support from people who understand my situation :) If anyone would like to email me, my address is: cat26980@yahoo.co.uk (sometimes have trouble getting emails from hotmail addresses for some reason!)

Thank you for reading :)

Hey - well done for graduating - sounds like it might have been a hard struggle..

Are you home alone or with family ?

**I sometimes have trouble going out ** Thats often part of this disorder but staying put won't help so you need to set up reasons to keeping going out even for trivial quick outings ..

The volunteering .. might it have been the type of vounteering that just didn't suit, after all we don't all like doing the same paid work never mind work not being paid..

Glad the counselling is going well ..Its not an overnight cure but slow and steady helps best.

Hi Tasha

Welcome to the forum and well done for graduating. I too have social phobia, as well as depression and know how isolated it can make you feel.

Glad the counselling is helping and I hope you find the help and support here really helpful too.
