Well - what a post to say I only joined today!

Does anyone else sometimes suffer anxiety during or after sexual activity?

By this I mean either with a partner or going at it alone (sorry - best way I could think of putting it!).

I suppose the racing heart and shortage of breath is normal, but may be mistaken for anxiety?

It's only happened to me once, but I was wondering what other people's experiences were?

It's a method of human affection which usually ends in the man falling asleep and the woman complaining.

Hi Malton Seadog

The deep breathing in sex that is required to reach orgasm can bring on a panic attack. People who hyperventilate a lot are more prone to this while suffering with an anxiety disorder. If you recognise a breathing pattern disorder then buy Dinah Bradleys book

Hyperventilation Syndrome..... Breathing Pattern Disorders

A Random House book New Zealand 2006

She is a specialist respiratory Physiotherapist and gives good breathing techniques. There are case histories you may identify with.

I hope this helps

Yeah, a lot of stimulation can bring it on - and I suppose that leads to a more rapid heart beat too.

My ex-girlfriend once said that I tended to have panic attacks when we had extra-good sex.

As for going it solo, well, I wonder if there's a bit of guilt or some other psychological feeling that triggers off the panic.

i am bisexual. I get those symptoms a lot more so when i think of men. I think its because i am in closet. Love to hear from similar guys.

ive always experienced a ton of panic in all of these areas, and i kind of expected more people to agree? but maybe it might have to do with past experiences, and how you were brought up, and all sorts of things? like, i panic from the fear/excitement beforehand, and certain flashbacks and quickening of breath and feeling trapped during, and afterwards if id "enjoyed myself?" i have a horrible panic attack from feeling guilty, and then hating my body, whether it was self-induced or from a partner. in either case, i totally understand this, and it really is awful!!! and i try to avoid it at all costs

It's only been a fairly recent thing, but I've started feeling really embarrassed and guilty about sex. I've been with my fiance for 4 years, and it's not really been a problem before. It causes panic and breath restriction in a bad way. Anyone know how to deal with that sort of thing?
