Hi everybody

This is probably in completely the wrong place but I thought I’d put it here as this will probably be the first page so many people coming to when visiting this site and I thought one of the best things to read when you got here would be something that made you feel tough and proud to be here taking the steps that you are. I think the last post was right in some ways, that we don't hear enough of the success stories - but I also think that we need to know that there are a million ways to beat this, and each person will need to follow a different course to get there, but whatever works for you - be it medication, CBT, herbs, yogs, - whatever - you should be doing it without shame or fear of judgement.

Anyway, I'll get to the point! I’m sure so many people know about her but Heather Armstrong writes a blog, www.dooce.com (http://www.dooce.com/) – and whilst trawling her archives I came across a post in which she talks about her battles with anxiety and depression – and it was just so strong and eloquent and inspiring that I wanted to share it. Because it – and the 1000s of comments that accompanied it brought tears to my eyes and for the first time made me feel proud for having the balls to do something about this. I went to the doctor for the first time in my life on Monday for something I’ve been suffering with for 20 years. I was scared and ashamed and worried what this meant, of owning up to the fact that I wasn’t perfect and able to cope the way everybody else did. But after reading this I was just so happy and proud of myself and all the other people who are tackling these things head on. It also made me feel that I’m really, really not alone – and I thought that would be a good thing to share with all of you here. And if you have time, please read the comments - they're amazing!

Enjoy!

And have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Thanks

Ali
