Hey Guys,
Im just wondering if any of you have this problem:
Just lately, I can feel my heartbeat very strongly throughout my body. Like I am just sitting here all quiet and i can feel and hear my heartbeat in my stomach, in my chest and in my throat.
Its really unsettling especially when it is going fast :weep:
This has happened lots of times - especially after eating and when I am laying in bed at night. Its driving me nuts. I keep thinking I have a blood clot or hight blood pressure or something and its really scaring me.
I am not going to google it as I am too scared of what I will find out :winks:
I have had ECG's and blood tests (all fine) and the last time I had my blood pressure checked it was a little high at 140/87 but I think it was because I was having a panic attack in the doctors surgery. I am 24 years old so hopefully my age means theres nothing seriously wrong.....??:yesyes:

Why can you feel your pulse everywhere in your body? I can even feel it now in my hands! argghhh!
Seriously though guys, is this just another weird symptom of anxiety or do I really have a problem?

Hiya

I get this all the time, it's just anxiety. Anxiety sufferers are more "tuned in" to thier bodies so we tend to notice our heartbeat all over, and even pounding in our ears.

Sometimes if I am laying down watching TV or reading a book, and it's all quiet, I can feel a pulse in my tummy bouncing all over the place, but I have had all the tests n stuff, still just anxiety.

140/87 is not bad considering you was having a panic attack, I doubt you would have high BP under normal conditions are your age. I get the "white coat syndrome" too, so in the surgery my bp would be 160/90. But at home it's more like 134/80.

Hiya

I've had this on and off for years - mainly at the times I am at my most anxious.

I've been told lots of times that people that suffer with anxiety - especially health anxiety are so tuned in to their bodies they feel everything.

I'm going through quiet an anxious time at the moment and can see my pulse and feel it as I'm typing.

I'm sure you are fine.

i have this same thing too, i call them 'heavy beats' - like your heartbeat is like dropping stones in water and you can feel the ripples throughout your entire chest. the weird thing is that they usually happen after meals which makes me think there is a connection and not a simple case of being 'tuned in' to your body. anybody have an explanation?

I think your heart has to work a bit harder during the digestive process. All sorts of stuff is going on in your stomach, liver, intestines etc, and there is a release of hormones, including adrenaline, to help the digestive process.

I went through this for months, and once you are aware of it, it is next to impossible to not notice it. I had certain positions that I would either sit or sleep in so that I would not detect my heart beating.

The secret to getting rid of it -- for me -- was to not care about it anymore. I would sit or sleep however I wanted to. If I could feel my heart, I would take note of it, and move on with my thoughts. If my thoughts returned, I'd allow them a "peek", and then move them on again. The less I cared about it, the more it would lessen.

There are times when it returns. I use these signals (for lack of a better word) to let me know that perhaps I need to check what stressful things are happening throughout the day, and take steps to lessen them, if possible. I now consider it to be an "indicator" of whether I am going about my day in a relaxed manner, or not.

I turned something annoying into something useful.

Might as well put it to work!

I get this all the time and convinced myself that I had a problem. I seriously thought I was about to have a heart attack or that I was suffering from hypertension.

I recently had a health check and my resting heart beat was 100bpm and blood pressure was 140/81. I'm 26 yo.

Worried about the result I bought myself a blood pressure monitor. It turns out that in the comfort of my own home my resting heart beat is about 72bpm and blood pressure is about 120/70. :)

I'm sure you will find theres nothing wrong and that this is just another symptom of anxiety.

Yeah I hate being conscious of my heart beat because when I turn my mind to my heart rate it inevitably increases!

I feel it in bed, sometimes I have to stop reading because i can feel it so strongly at the point where I am holding the book that I lose all concentration. Sometimes I feel it in my stomach, especially when exercising.

Just accept it as an annoying symptom that is with you for the moment. It's when you recoil in fear from it that it become so much worse. Just see it as something which is along for the ride for the moment, it's not important.

You can become hypersensitive to your own heartbeat. I did for a while. And when you notice it you get nervous and it beats faster.

My resting heart rate is normal, until I start checking it every 5 minutes and it rises.

Hi all,

I've had the same symptoms for over two years now. For all you out there that suffer from this every day please be rest assured that it's all in your head. I have pretty much got over this apart from feeling my pulse when I go to bed now and again. I cope with this in two ways.

1. I do lots of exercise

This helps because if I'm fit and healthy then I tell my brain that there can be nothing wrong with me. This relaxes my body.

2. When I start to feel my pulse I focus on my breathing

I focus on slow and steady breathing. It takes my mind off the pulsating feeling.

I always beleive that if you are not in pain, you feel fine and you are young then there can be nothing wrong. The mind can play tricks ok you so don't let it.

I too get all these symptoms and thought I was anemic or even worse... i went to the doctor and she just dis regarded me and said that i need to sleep better etc so gave me some leaflets, every now and again ill have a little panic attack and my heart goes like mad and i feel spaced out and distant from everyone all the time.

These types of forums help me understand what I am going through but I am only 18 and at uni and have only been having these problems since studying away from home so this may be the problem.

I have night terrors and things which stop me from sleeping but when I do sleep well 10hours for example I will feel drained, tired and aching muscles everywhere

sorry for putting this on you guys but i feel intimidated by my own body its horrible.

Hi guys.

I too am going through this problem right now. I'm determined though not to let it get to me. Since reaching my 'peak' of acute anxiety I have suffered every symptom going. Indegestion/stomach cramps, dizzyness/headaches, muscle pains etc etc. I've learnt though that it is only the mind that is causing this. Unfortunately it is true that people suffering with anxiety are very in-tune with their own body and its part and parcel of the problem that we become very introvert and self obsessive. The mind is a very powerful tool and as soon as you 'think' you feel something untoward the mind will undoubtedly focus all its attention on that perceived 'problem'. Normal people (and I apologise for using that term) will shrug this off - think nothing of it and move on with there thoughts and activities. Unfortunately us anxious people divert all our attention to it which inevitably heightens the effects of the symptom and sends us into a whirlpool of panic and self doubt.

I speak from experience only but found when I 'thought' I had a problem eg. stomach pain for weeks after I had indegestion and cramps (thought I had stomach cancer, ulcers etc). Then one day I woke up and - nothing. I was fine. Then the dizzyness and headaches started and for the following weeks I thought I had a brain tumour or diabetes - everything under the sun. Then one day - suprise - I woke up and it was gone. Now its the heart beat problem and I have the same concerns of high blood pressure, heart attack! It is just the mind working over time. One day, when the brain realises I'm not going to die and that the heart beat doesn't bother me anymore this will stop and another problem will start. Its a vicious cycle!

Ask yourself this - when you are really distracted does the problem persist or do you forget about it? Even if its just for minutes or seconds? If you possibly had a real problem this wouldn't happen (and I'm not suggesting you do!)

The only answer is distraction, distraction, distraction! And if it does get the better of you - beat it down with a stick and keep telling yourself you're fine. *You are in control of you.*

Whatever you do though, try and relax.

Its a horrible feeling because you think it will never end - I'm the same but stay strong and don't let it get you down.

Anxiety is the worst thing ever! I can never understand why my own mind would want to torment me so much?

Hope this helps. Sorry to ramble on . . .

Even though I have low blood pressure, I have this feeling too every once in a while, strangely enough, mostly when I am relaxed, for example reading a book or lying in the bed trying to fall asleep, etc.
I remember a few weeks ago I was sitting on the couch in the evening reading a good book and my legs were covered with a blanket. I started to feel my pulse all over in my body and was watching the blanket moving / pulsing on my legs!! :scared15:

It is just an annoying symptom, nothing to worry about. I also had my heart checked a few months ago and the doc told me it is completely healthy. :)

I have suffered from this issue for about two years. I'm glad I'm not alone! I have gone to my primary doctor and the cardiologist about this issue for the past two years and they tell me I'm fine. I do suffer from anxiety and am a self proclaimed mild hypochondriac (I don't read the warning labels that come with medicine because I'll be guaranteed to get some side effects!).

After reading your posts and knowing that this is linked with anxiety, I feel much better. Now I need to work on convincing my brain that I'm really ok.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi all!

my age is 23 yo and i am having same problem!! and right now having very unstable

condition!!

i use to do heavy cigrette smoking like 10-20 a day, and chew tobacco sometimes

too.. strictly QUIT every thing on 8th nov onwards!

anyways,
this all happend on 8th Nov, 11 days back from today, i came to home and start

felling my heart beat ponding in my chest, felt my own heart beat! with a little

feeling of fainting... i breathed hardly!! i panicked and thought i was having an

heart attack or some thing...., i went to hospital emergency.. they check my

vitals they were normal.. heartbeat high and blod pressure like 130-90 dr. gave

me some injection for depression and stomach.. i calmed then and sleep that

night..

next day the whole day i was felling the same feeling and at night it got severe

feeling.. i felt like my heart beat racing very much and going to have some heart

attack.. i went to hospital again they check my vitals etc etc.. told me that i

am fine go home and rest..

then this feeling continued, dr suggested me to have ECG and i got ECG 3 times...

ECG is fine.. but it is showing "heart palpitation"(heartbeat skipping) in 1 ECG

and i can feel it too.. if any one want to c i can send my ECG..

heart palpitation is not dangerous and many people have this problem.. so i hope

it will not cause any problem...

from that day i am having this anxiety feeling is always with me now from 8th

Nov today in 19 Nov, and i got these feelings when i am on my peak(Indegestion/stomach cramps, dizzyness/headaches) i am very scared some times that i hope its not a heart

problem, damaged heart or something??.. or should i have some more tests? or some

medicine will help me? i dont know..

this forum helps me alot! reading ur guys comments gives me a feeling that may be its not that serious as my mind is telling it is.. thanks guys,.. God bless you!

I am not sure if this is related but i can sometimes feel my pulse in odd places. For example i might feel it in my eye, finger, lip, or tounge. It usually goes away within a day or two and i doubt it's stress related

I'm 23 and just last week my bp was 149/90. I'm sure it was anxiety.
I was actually anxious about the pulse I could feel below my sternum. It was making a popping sound also!

I get this quite frequently too. When I sit down with my legs crossed, I can see my foot moving with my pulse. It can be alarming, but like other people have said, it's just because we're more tuned in to our bodies.

I get this too. I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was sitting still and saw my hair moving. Now I am aware of it, but only when I am not active. If I am doing something then I forget all about it. I am trying not to read too much into it. I did a quick search on here and found a few posts about it xx

Vanwinkle, it's great to know that I'm not alone in this. Thanks for the encouragement! I've suffered anxiety for quite a while. My anxiety levels have been so bad at times that i have actually lost consciousness. I create anxiety over nearly everything related to health. Once I lost consciousness at the doctors office just having blood work done. Another time was in the ER when the doctor was giving his prognosis about my mother. Shortly after she began, I began becoming light headed then just went out. I'm under a lot of stress which seems to really help feed my anxiety. You're right, it is the worst thing I have ever gone through. This is my first time on this site and my first post and just reading everyones comments and advice has really helped me to tell myself that I'm ok. I found this forum a few minutes ago while doing a Google search about feeling my pulse in my stomach, chest and throat. Like I usually do, I automatically think the worst so when I found this forum and realized it was just another symptom of anxiety, I have already noticed the symptom dissipating quite significantly and now feel much better!! The distraction of reading and typing this probably helped by getting my mind off of it as well. I read your post and really identified with it. Thank You!!!

Hello,

I actually do feel my pulse everywhere in my body, as soon as I lay down or stay still I can start feeling my heart beat. It is really annoying , as it distracts me from whatever I'm doing.

I used to suffer from this condition when I was in high school for 2 years and as soon as I went to university it went away, but for some reason it came back.

I wonder if u feel a contraction at your testicles with every heart beat? Because I do and as a result whenever I urinate white penile discharge comes out, and it is driving me crazy!!

Hey, I feel this too

I think when people say it goes and comes back, its just you noticing it and focusing on it more than when you're busy or not at rest.

Trust me, I have big heart fears (my dad had a heart attack a couple years ago) so my GP will always give me EKG or stuff like that to set my mind at ease. He says that its completely normal to feel it in other parts and strong.

Also, a weird one, when I lay down and watch tv sometimes I will rest my arm above my head and grab my hair, and I will feel the pulse in my fingers as they are grasping. So weird!

I got this for the first time whilst I was in hospital after having my 3rd baby. I had a c section had an ecg everything was fine (try telling that to a hormonal sleep deprived new mummy!!) It happened again last weekend again whilst I was in hospital, but this time I was staying there to be with my daughter who had just broken her arm! I must panic when im in hospital staying over. Luckily it didn't last very long as I moved my mind on to why I was there and there was nothing wrong with me!! Its a horrible sensation!! I get a rapid heartbeat after napping in the afternoon. I have no reason to believe its my heart as I can do a gym session and live to tell the tale! Just another one of those anxiety symptoms!
