Hey all!

I was honestly unsure where to put this, but this seemed like the most logical place so here we go. I was hoping to get some advice from the great people here :)

Basically, the root cause of my anxiety problems is, I'm sure, my really early mornings (wake at 6am) and very long commute to work. The one in the morning takes 2 hours, the evening commute a slightly more modest 1 hr 50mins. But I have to take 2 trains and a bus each way (and walk!) and this is really wearing me out. I'm on Fluoxetine which I *think* is helping, however things are still far from perfect with me sometimes having anxiety attacks before and when travelling.

I also want to have more of a real life- and not spend it all travelling, and I'm concerned that if I get really bad anxiety later I won't be able to do the commute. This has already happened on a few occasions and I was nearly stuck at work once. I also hate being so far from home. I don't drive as I find driving extremely nerve-wracking hence why my journey is so long!

I've been trying to get a local job related to the one I do for a while, but sadly without too much success as what I do is a bit specialised. I always seem to be pipped at the post in interviews (down to the last 2 normally). So should I throw in the towel with my current job and spend more time looking for others locally, or start a general position (eg librarian or something similar), or stick with this one?

:hugs:

Hi Graz

I used to do a long commute and this was well before I had a breakdown and I found it stressful then.... I know I wouldn't want to endure it now.

It's not just the time travelling it's the fact once home on a night there is no time left for fun or even having the energy to cook a really decent meal.

Do you love your job? If you do then the travel may be worth the inconvienance. Do you love your job enough to be able to move a little nearer work?

If you really do love your job I wonder if you'd get bored in another job that isn't making you as happy... BUT if you feel your home life is is really paying the price for the commute might be worth a browse to see what jobs are available a bit nearer to home.

I think you should also rethink the driving aspect ( says me petrified of driving!) just because it would make your life easier.....
